Parts Wanted

After my early xmas eve prezzy from a young lady in a car park, I decided I don't want it and she can kindly shuv it up her ass. Fortunately as I returned back to my car she was sat waiting with her details for me. This is the first time I've had bad and good luck on the same day.. Honesty is the best policy.

So I would like a new bumper and wheel arch trim in PBT and the piece on the rear door. What you got folks?
Looks like her insurance company are going to write it off for this..

petet16 13-01-14 08:39 AM

They probably will try and write it off for what is very minor damage, all the required parts are available new, at a cost of £433, when you add painting and fitting it bumps the cost up to a point where the ins co will want to write it off.

Fair play to the lass that scraped you for waiting, sadly too many people would have done a runner in those circumstances.

Probably not much help but iv got a MK2 hatch rear bumper here in Firefrost Red, needs a respray anyway as its tatty.. Just a thought?

Maxfly 13-01-14 10:05 AM

I take it that the existing g bumper can't be repaired at all? Would be a good bit cheaper if it was.

Jay-ZS+ 13-01-14 10:11 AM

Hard to tell from the pictures but looks just like paint damage, perhaps a touch of filler and a coat of paint and your all good.

ZS 13-01-14 10:12 AM

That Damage doesn't look overly bad... what would a damn good clean and T-Cut bring it out like? if its not too bad then a chips away style place might be able to make it perfect after that.... Might be worth investigating at least?

petet16 13-01-14 10:14 AM

Hard to be sure from the pics, but that looks an easy repair, even if the bumper is cracked it would still be repairable.

Smokey 13-01-14 11:20 AM

Repair over replacement I would say, looks mainly cosmetic?

Kudos to the person for waiting and owning up to the damage.

Mark S 13-01-14 04:41 PM

it looks like it would all rub off with a bit of G3 and leave hardly any noticeable marks at all.

pucc 17-01-14 07:04 PM

Well today I heard back from the engineer for a second opinion and they have also said its not cost effective to have it repaired. So looks like its getting written off. £1564.00 and I keep her.. Any one with a good body shop in Teesside for recommendation would be great.

stamford 17-01-14 07:59 PM

Crazy to be written off, it does beg the question have they done a proper assessment or just can't be arsed because of what it is?

petet16 17-01-14 08:28 PM

All the parts are available new for sub £500, what's the other £1000 for.

adam 17-01-14 08:30 PM

Surely that's just some filler and paint, can't be more than a couple of hundred worth of damage.

Dan1971 17-01-14 08:38 PM

The way I read that - they are giving you £1500+ and the car !!! If that's the case that is a right result !

Alan.F 18-01-14 04:49 AM

they wrote my ZT off for less damage than that

spud 18-01-14 06:57 AM

So that is what £1.5k worth of damage looks like then. Clearly i am in the wrong business.

pucc 18-01-14 10:52 AM

There is damage to rear bumper, and both bits of trim over the wheel arch and there is a tiny dent on the body where it meets the clips that hold the bumper on this will also need filling and painting and also the wheel has been badly scratched too. To have them repaired they need to be removed filled and prepped and painted, the wheel needs re-furbing and checking, as it may be buckeled (they said all 4 would be done). Also there is the cost of a hire car to be added too, so you can easily see how the cost can soon rise..

Steves Cleenz 18-01-14 02:04 PM

i would try some polish on that first, i reckon a good machine polish on that and most of it will be gone, what ever is left a good smart repair will sort the rest

talkingcars 18-01-14 04:40 PM

Welcome to the forum Spud - post a new thread with an intro.

You need to retain those photos then pal to show any potential buyers later that it was just some paint.

So you're quids in then really - result !

petet16 12-02-14 08:53 AM

Cat D for paint scratches, how ridiculous is that.

The job looks to have come out fine though.
