ZS-X is back!

Hi Guys,

I know a lot of you will know from POL but I just wanted to say that I am the new owner of the ZS-X. I also own the other Twilight ZS so I have the pair.

I know there was a lot of talk on this on facebook and on here about who had bought it etc but I kept quiet for the big reveal at POL.

I just want to say that it's former owner James has kept the car in fantastic condition and it looks amazing. I only want to keep up his great work with the car and hope to bring it to as many events as I can so people can enjoy it with me.

Also, if anyone has any information regarding the background of the car I would like to hear from you :)

Any way just wanted to leave a couple of pics on here so people can see that it is safe and I hope people will understand my reasons for wanting to own both.

Cheers
John

That's just plain greedy!

I have photos of this ZS from back in July 2007 when Ralph of EMS owned.

Haha!

Be good to see some photos from years gone by :)

ZS Phil 20-04-15 01:43 PM

Saw them both at POL, so glad it fell into an enthusiasts hands who will look after it.

There will be a few sets of twins on the site now with Mick and his Mrs in the sunspots, you with the twilights and myself with the (somewhat inferior) modified MK1 silver hatches.

Would look good on a stand if we could get the pairs all together.

adam 20-04-15 01:55 PM

As I said to you at PoL, really glad you managed to get it and a lovely pair you have there!

Thanks Adam. Really good to see you again too - it's been quite a while since the ZR days!

ZS 20-04-15 02:41 PM

You need a MG54 ZSX plate (or similar!) now!!!:clap:

Skillen 20-04-15 02:47 PM

Looks like there is a square hole on the bonnet to fill with something square under the bonnet ;)

pheelay 20-04-15 02:51 PM

Two epic cars mate. I have just 2 pics of them from Saturday. I noticed the bonnet bulge. It was used by MGR to experiment fitting a supercharger. Is there anything special under there or is it all standard now?

john180 20-04-15 02:52 PM

Yeah its all standard now apart from the ITG etc and the aircon pipes. Great pics by the way too!!

I'm saving those for the collection :)

haha I wonder if its available...

there were a few comments about the BJ bit of the plate... lol!

Ricwin 20-04-15 03:08 PM

I heard from PoL that theres an unused supercharger kit for sale in Australia, asking price is £4,000. It would put that bonnet bulge to good use...

Skillen 20-04-15 03:10 PM

Wow that colour shift in those two pics is ridiculous!!
The far one looks like ignition blue and the closer one looks like nocturne!

ZS 20-04-15 03:36 PM

I'm sure Ralph told me once it had uprated internals... But I could be wrong lol I suppose I could ask him but all he talks about these days are his dogs lmao

Deckz 20-04-15 03:39 PM

Jealous!!

it does have a few power related mods yes.

stamford 20-04-15 04:12 PM

I'm pretty sure this had an Eaton supercharger during its development phase and was mounted under, not on top from what I remember.

Here's one from an EMS day July 2007

Lukeus101 20-04-15 04:33 PM

Its good to know mate that someone who has been trying to track the car down for so long gets it in the end. All that hard work pays off ;)

And having a sad ass mate that has nothing better to do than trawl the gumtree ads...

petet16 20-04-15 04:33 PM

£4000 was about the list price from Sprintex when they were available.

I do believe you are correct as I remember trying to contact eaton superchargers at the time to get hold of a charger for my blue 180...

IIRC the reason the charger was removed was because there was some sort of agreement that eaton wouldn't make chargers for the KV6 after MGR went bust or something... but thats only from a vague memory fragment lol

ZS 20-04-15 06:02 PM

Tell you what John... if you are ever down this way, or at an event that he is at, I'll introduce you to Andy who will spend hours talking to you about this car as if it was his own lol I think he thinks he knows more about the car than Ralph did  :smart:

Maxfly 20-04-15 07:13 PM

Well done on getting the zs-x, that is admirable determination and a great result for you and the car. Still looks as stunning as it did years ago, do you have a plan for it and it's twin?

vanishing days 20-04-15 07:33 PM

at one point ralph had a supercharged engine but it wasn't a sprintex one if I remember rightly

I tried to find him at pol but I couldn't, only found his car... Would be great to chat to him.

I did talk to him on Facebook a while ago when I was trying to track it down.

Thanks :-)

The plans are to keep it as it is for now. It's how the story was laid out for it I guess.

talkingcars 20-04-15 07:43 PM

Nice one (or is that two) John.

It's proberbly that MGR owed Eaton money so they wanter to minimize their looses.

Pretty sure it was a 2.0 KV6 with the Eaton charger fitted.

carmadbaker 20-04-15 08:49 PM

Im sure Ralph told me the charger got removed because it insisted on popping engines! Was on engine number 3 as one of the directors cars but got put back standard to sell on when the last one gave up the ghost.
Boot hill bandit did have the mould for the bonnet vent aswell fyi

Interesting, I was sure that engine had different internals to cope with the charger... I guess Ralph would know for sure though :)

I wonder if he still has the mould, I quite like that vent and wouldn't say no to making one up... ;)

Stev180 21-04-15 09:09 AM

Looks stunning! I have emailed 2007 pictures over!

So is this bonnet purely cosmetic or was it formed to hold something more under the bonnet when originally designed...

wouldnt mind a bonnet scoop similar to this on my 180

john180 21-04-15 12:44 PM

It was designed to house and allow a supercharger to be cooled. The car was a factory development car for a supercharged zs that never materialised. It was code named the zs-x.
