http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rover-400-414-...3A1|240%3A1318

RudeDogg1 26-01-09 10:20 PM

Stephen 26-01-09 10:24 PM

Bought one! £15

Nor 27-01-09 01:19 AM

Are they not the same as the ones in the 180?

dave87 27-01-09 02:13 AM

Alan.F 27-01-09 07:07 AM

How easy is it?

TjP 27-01-09 10:22 PM

Those are tidy. Slightly different to the standard wheel that was in my mk2, in the way that those ones there have swellings for your thumbs, my old one didnt. Got Smokeys old TF wheel now though and the shape is very similar to that picture. Very easy to fit.

Really easy m8 just disconnect the battery for 20mins then un do the 2 torques bolts on the back and remove the airbag then its just like changing a normal steering wheel

skyblueads 28-01-09 08:42 AM

I've bought one, what size is the main steering wheel bolt? 20 minutes to let the charge in the airbag go, I pressume?

p_b82 28-01-09 10:04 AM

mine turned up this morning while i was in the shower

Haynes does not say what the size of the bolt is, but it mentions 10mins for SRS to loose its charge.. 20mins seems like a cunning plan tho :)

MikeMant 28-01-09 04:55 PM

Why do i feel the urge to buy one ready for when i get my zs??

vinny1979 28-01-09 04:58 PM

good man lol. 24 or 32mm?? i cant remember

Stephen 28-01-09 04:59 PM

mine came too.

Same size as the original but much better feel to it.

Now on the lookout for an MG Airbag.
Stephen

It looks exactly the same as the wheel in my mk ZS, but the one in my car now has gone all shiny really and doesn't feel like a grippy leather wheel. Have those new ones got a nice grippy feel to them?

p_b82 28-01-09 05:09 PM

all my airbags needs re-doing next year anyway, so will refit the old module for now and get the lot done in 2010...

yeah it is a lot less slippery than the plastic one i have on atm...

admittedly my testing has been holdng it in my hands and pretending, as my car is no where near me to swap them over :D

Why do the airbags need doing? They are 15 years for replacement, unless you have a fault.

mine was 19mm

RudeDogg1 30-01-09 09:25 PM

these dont need adapters then?

Craig 30-01-09 09:27 PM

straight fit mate

skyblueads 30-01-09 09:50 PM

Mine should be here soon, bit worried about the airbag giving me one in the face though. :yikes: Is it really as simple as everyone says, and how does the airbag go back into the new wheel?

Craig 30-01-09 09:59 PM

so simple mate.

Park the car with the roadwheels dead ahead, Discon battery for 20 mins just to be safe and let the airbag charge dissipate. undo the 2 torx bolts torx 30 or 35 iirc. Lift off the bag. gently prise off the yellow connector, remove the black plug, careful to keep the rotary coupler in the same position. Undo the 19mm bolt for the wheel, sometimes easier to loosen it off a couple of turns then pull the wheel till it frees, saves getting a wheel in the face :D

Then reverse the steps and roberts your mothers brother

skyblueads 30-01-09 10:10 PM

Hopefully it'll be simple then. Fingers crossed!

afcbadam 30-01-09 10:12 PM

it honestly took me no more than 10 mins once the airbag charge had gone

TjP 30-01-09 10:14 PM

I managed to fit a TF wheel on my own mate and Im a complete nutcase. I will admit I handled the airbag like a case of high explosives though :pirate:

MikeMant 31-01-09 11:10 AM

I take it the orignal air bags fit on the new wheel?? If so im gonna buy one lol

yep take the air bag off then the old wheel, put the new wheel on then the origional airbag back on. no modifications needed, no extra parts its as easy as having a wank

XPCobra 31-01-09 05:19 PM
