How do I know if my cambelts are original ones?

I have the small belt on my 180 with the Rover branding on it, the main belt is blank with no marks at all.
They are nearly 5 years overdue if they havent been changed...
Question is, did the main belt have Rover markings on it from the factory?

Just had my belts & w/pump replaced. I was like you, I had s/h but no ref to belts being changed.
My car was well below the target 90k for having them changed, but 4 years over on time!!

It worried me to much trying to second guess had they/hadn't they..

I asked the garage to show me the old belts when I collected the car. I can't remember seeing any branding?
The belts themselves 'looked' ok, but that is no indication that they won't go 'PING' tomorrow.

If in doubt, & you can't prove one way or another - get them changed!

If your not sure then get them done, Its not cheap but its still a damn sight cheaper than repairing the damage caused by the belts snapping!

Cheers,
Matt

I think the OE spec replacement ones have Rover branding on them, can't remember the name of the company that I read about last night that supplies them. Its just strange that one side is branded and one side isn't.
I can borrow a timing kit and I know my way round an engine well enough.
Its on my list of things to do.
Although I may wimp out, parts at £200 plus oil and coolant, or get them done for £450- £475...

The originals were Gates or Dayco I think

Mine were still origional MGR ones, but they had no markings left on them, Wanted to see them just to see if they felt/ looked OLD. They still looked good for a few more miles. On some belts at work, the makers numbers stay visible for years, others wear off after a few months........... Best replace them, then you know.......

Dayco, thats the fellows. They supplied MGR with OE belts. Their aftermarket ones are also Rover branded according to what I read.
