Current build progress (pics)

Hello all! been a while since i have posted but thought you might all like an update of my project car.

Took me about a month on and off in the garage, harassing ppl on the forum for info and mates for help etc, but i finally got my t-series engine in.

Bought a load of stuff from Darryl at motobuild

Whipped the engine out of that blue ZS i found with the t-series in it, found that most of it was on its way out so gave it all a good clean/rebuild/repair and put it all back together with a lick of paint and into my green ZS

Still needed a little work at this stage, a lot of the boost pipes were from the blue Zs and have all been replaced now as they kept bursting off from the boost pressure. Also wasn't happy with how the car felt handling wise, with all the extra weight at the front end. So i added some strutt braces and got some new springs for my coilovers, don't know what the kit came with but i calculated that 375lb springs should be better for the weight, certainly notice a big improvement.

The eagle eyed among you will notice i have no coolant in my expansion bottle, I have identified a coolant leak coming from one of the hoses round the back of the engine. (still to be fixed - lazy)

I felt like the interior needed a little spruce! so remade my door cards slightly, removed the shabby vinyl from the trim inserts and sprayed them up and put in a new steering wheel.

Also moved the battery to the boot to help shift some of the weight to the back.

No laughing at my battery box! that was my first ever attempt at fiberglassing

Dont know if anyone remembers the silver alloys i used to have? well they were gettin a bit old and battered, so I treated the car to a new set.

Yes the bonnet is open in this picture, not bad fitting lol. Ignore the blue lip! I took that from the blue MG as it was in better nick then my green one! still needs to be painted.

Which reminds me, i got a spare k-series and blue ZS kicking about for spares if anyone needs anything ;)

Still working on building myself a new exhaust system as the one from the blue zs which i had to fit, is a 3" straight through with no backbox, way too loud.

The ecu still needs mapping, with the garrett t28, larger cylinder bore and fast road cams, the car chokes at about 5.5k rpm. So not running to its full potential just yet, but just as well, all this cruising at low revs is saving on my fuel cost

Not bad for a hobbyist i think! If anyone wants more info on what parts I've used or specs etc etc, please feel free! :happy2:

Good progress mate, I know mick (stamford) is looking for a blue saloon boot, i'm staying near you next weekend (20th-22nd) and going down to see mick. Perhaps something can be arranged.

Looking good!

That's exactly what I want to do with my doorcards too, what are yours made from? It gives me a great idea of how they'll look when done!

Yeah deffo, although to my memory the boot lid off the blue car has a small dent on it, will have to have another look and confirm!

I used something like 2 mm aluminium sheet and just covered it with carbon vinyl, only reason i covered it was because the shiny sheet was a bit much to look at. Fastened it to the door with some rubber rivnuts to stop any vibration noise.

cheers guys, i will keep you update with any major updates!

always good to see a project taking shape, is the car destined for the track?

talkingcars 11-03-15 08:01 PM
