Site Track Car... It's Alive!!!

Well, big thanks to Marcus and Grimmy (and Tommy the tool boy!), we now have a running engine!

A few things still to do, but we got the front end back together so only things left:

Bumper back on
CV joints jubilees to check for tightness
Exhaust back on its hangers
Rear brake caliper to reassemble
Front wheels on

It's showing a crank sensor error so either it needs time to run through or it will need replaced (was the one originally on the car and was working fine when car was running so we will see)

Can't think of anything else needing done as it's pretty much sorted!

Here's the proof in video, bear in mind it was just hooked up to test it started....

Smokey 18-02-13 07:50 PM

Cheers Mick, it's already blessed, with hard grafters getting it running!

a few inlet sensors but sadly no crack... but I have been told there is a ZS in TY in a scrappy near me and I will be going on Friday to have a look at it and maybe rob a few bits.. :ninja:

Smokey 18-02-13 09:45 PM

2 exhaust manifold bolts would be nice lol!

PM me a list of the smaller bits (nuts n bolts etc) your missing and I'll check if I have them tonight and send for postage :)

Smokey 19-02-13 08:08 AM

Think that was it mate, oh and 2 inlet manifold bolts if you have em? Let me know cost mate, and cheers once again for the engine, you are a big cog in this process!

andys1981 19-02-13 10:53 AM

well done lads, really chuffed for yous, wish i could have been there to lend a hand

Maxfly 21-02-13 05:44 AM

absolutley excellent, top work getting life back intot he track car! hopefully the wee bits and pieces will fall into place shortly ege the crank sensor. Though for an engine out job to really only have that and couple manifold bolts needed is excellent!

zsserbia 21-02-13 03:54 PM

Spare parts - pricey
First startup - priceless

Nice work, I wish you guys a lot of fun and track days with it :clap2:

Smokey 22-02-13 10:54 PM

Wee update on this as Grimmy and Marcus have been tidying up a little. Wheels on, exhaust hooked back up and the car was running fine for 90 minutes with no leaks and no switching off (which was an issue last weekend when warm)

Things are looking good for it's first test run as soon as I clean up the rear caliper sliding pins!

Cheers mate, last year we had a blast in it so hopefully we'll get even more pleasure knowing we stripped it down and built it back up!

Also less worried about my mk2 giving up the ghost (at 119,000 miles so far!) as an engine swap seems less daunting.

Not tempting fate though as I hope this engine runs for another 119k!

Ritchy 23-02-13 07:09 AM

Glad its all running guys hope to see it at the track soon

peterzs 23-02-13 10:20 AM

Well done, all.

Great feeling when its all up and running!!!

Have fun.

peterzs 03-03-13 01:56 PM

Nor 03-03-13 01:58 PM

Looking good.

grimmy 03-03-13 02:21 PM

That looks fooking class.love it mate.

Smokey 03-03-13 03:03 PM

Do...not...remove...the...boots!!

Looks ace and cheers for giving it a much needed spruce up!

As for a refurb, I already refurb'd the current ones white so doubt I'll be spraying them again any time soon...although, the black would hide the brake dust and melted rubber..... :)
