Missing the forum style

With looking for a new 180 and using the Facebook pages as it has the highest traffic. It absolutely makes me miss the forum style and the good people!

Funny thing is I am looking to reduce my "fleet" and at the moment the 180 is going to be the first to go!

Too many projects and not enough time in the day at the moment... :joker:

I know what you mean about the differences between the forum and the facebook styles, I see it across the board (on other car clubs, not just the one!).

I still think at some point it will go full circle though and will come back to forums again.... But lets see :)

Smokey 15-05-19 03:49 PM

I hope it does. This forum was the best and most popular place I hung out. And met great people. Moving to the 6 didn't help but even those forums are a bit quiet. But I'm not a facebook fan so it's not ideal!
I did post on facebook what I was looking for though and seems there are far too many cheap projects and nobody willing to part with their excellent spec 180's!

Dan1971 15-05-19 06:13 PM

And the boomerang zs strikes again....

What you looking for....I'm always looking around ?

Smokey 15-05-19 06:29 PM

I've always wanted another one but we had no need for a second car. The 6 is also not as exciting!

Copied from facebook but I'm obviously flexible on some things and wont be paying top prices for under par ones!

MG ZS 180 mk2
Saloon
Paintwork must be in decent order
No concerning rust, especially underside/paintwork
Everything must work (electric windows, air con gassed, radio, heated seats if present)
Mileage no more that 70k but must have had recent belts job
Service history/parts replaced would be nice
Seats in good condition (alcantara/full leather preferred)
Working via motors
Induction a nice bonus
Remapped would be amazing but not important
Other mods I'd be interested to know
S/S exhaust. Prefer twins but flexible
Bumper sag fixed or at least no crack in rear bumper
Must have long mot with advisories fixed or listed
Flexible on colour

Probably other things but clearly I want a nice, well looked after 180 so I can have a year of 'fairly' hassle free driving. I have the cash but won't settle for something I'm not 100% on unless the price is right.

I probably won't go over £3k unless it's super special. There is one blue one on facebook that I really like but he values it £500 more than me unfortunately, else I would have it!

I know that feeling, I was going to offer you some parts to clear the shed and keep Mrs TC on side.

Dan1971 16-05-19 07:26 AM

Good budget but you are looking for a good one with that mileage and belts done.... Fingers crossed.....

Smokey 16-05-19 08:52 AM

Yeah, I know there is a limited amount of low mileage ones around!

peterzs 16-05-19 10:11 AM

good luck with it Smokey, there will be one out there.

In Yellow I expect. :)

:):):)

I do owe you those wheels back at some point!

My plan at the moment is to get the 180 and the T series back to a good or excelent standard and then see how I feel.

I think the fact they are off the road is what is bugging me more than anything. I put the F back on the road a few weeks back and have been loving it since then! (And I was going to scrap the F before it finally scraped through an MOT)

Add to that the fact the 6 requires about £1500 of repairs (Flywheel and clutch mainly) and that might be the reason I am feeling down with cars right now.

Smokey 16-05-19 03:02 PM

Yellow? Why yellow? Not that I would turn a yellow mk2 down, the wife loves the yellow ones (especially sunspot!)

No rush Sam, I was going to ask if you wanted the full set?

I am really frustrated with both my F's, the VVC has had hundreds spent on upgrading to TF suspension not to mention the time it took but I can't get it through the emissions due to the fuelling not switching properly on the high idle test, the 1.8i seems to have seized, I suspect in weeping inlet gasket has allowed coolant into the cylinders as the car is parked on quite a slope and now it won't turn over.

Get an engine, put it in the one for the mot, then swap it out... ?

I jump started a customers car the other day... Using a Jump Pack (battery pack) I put the Red Jump Lead on the Red terminal on the battery and the Black Jump lead on the Black terminal of the battery - Something I have done hundreds of times before with different cars.

This time however I blew multiple fuses, destroyed the sunroof motor and fried the ATC panel.

Turns out on *THIS* car, Red = Negative and Black = Positive.

So... now spending my free time cleaning that mess up ready for the customer to collect next week!

Wow.

I agree the forums are far superior when filtering the right answers and finding information. Facebook is too convenient and aimed at the younger generation which can be lazy or ill informed. We will keep both running just to stay out there. As things stand it will be quiet as we are losing too many zeds to breakers and greed. But yes it’ll come back around.

Get luck in your hunt Blair.

Sam sorry to hear of your woes, cars eh!

My S6 had its rear screen smashed last weekend, pissed me right off! Trying to sell it too. Considered breaking it, that’s how fed up I am with it.

Still my ZS is coming along, worked on every weekend.

Its interesting to hear your impression of Facebook Mick... My (much) younger siblings (half brothers) and my Sisters children view Facebook as an "Old Person's Site" and only use it to keep in contact with their older relatives. As I understand it, this is the current view from most people of that generation, hence why Facebook are trying to make big changes to try and pull them back.

I believe, instagram and snap chat are the young person's choice these days (probably others as well!)

p_b82 21-05-19 11:10 AM

Facheache with their enforced algorithms, in ability to display the posts in a chronological order anymore, ads, suggested posts and all that crap has turned a lot of people off - but it does better for somethings than twitter, Instagram & snap with the groups, events & chat being inbuilt.

But it isn't the "young" platform it once was.... It's kinda turning a bit into myspace in that respect! (Google killed off G+ in April)

As said though, I find that faceache just doesn't hold the info/knowledge that a forum does - I'm sure you can get in contact with people and DM them to have a chat, but people don't tend to share the lessons sides of things out. so I for one and very glad this place is still here - who knows soon I might be able to actually share summit about the ZS as well :D

stamford 21-05-19 09:09 PM

I see where you are coming from. I only see the tripe posted on FB and people asking questions and getting flamed. Some groups are a bit clicky. I’m only using it to gain some interest for newer members. Personally I’m on it to stay in touch with family and old friends. Took me ages to get back on it and use it.

jc600 27-05-19 07:15 AM

I agree, much prefer forums over Facebook. Too many trolls, repetive posts, dirty washing being hung out, multiple groups, and so on.

Bring back the good old days.

I still keep looking for another ZS lol......if one catches my eye, you never know. :)

Smokey 15-06-19 09:44 AM

The repetitiveness does get me down. People can't search for their issue so just fill the threads with the same, not dumb, but simple questions.

As a side note. Decided to get a second MG6 saloon and now have it chipped so probably as quick as my ZS's were, just a different power delivery. Exhaust is next on the list for some decent sound!

Dan1971 15-06-19 09:58 AM

A replacement for your first or additional?

Lots around for much cheapness .... Chipped? What figures now? You got some sort of induction on there too? Think Craig had something fancy fitted when he had his.

Smokey 15-06-19 12:59 PM

Additional, so have a blue and red TSE Magnette. Its a DTI Tuning Chip. Not had it on a rolling road but a few have registered around 195 with exhaust/induction. I will be doing both.
