my 120 saloon
well i think im going to be keeping this car for a while and if all goes to plan(when does it ever?) then i think it could end up being rather nice.
the car itself is an 02 reg 120 saloon in trophy blue. not too bad condition although it is going to need a new nsr door and rear bumper and i may change the nsf aswell as has a couple of pin dents. it was completely standard when i got it and so far not too much has changed. i have fitted a new set of mats, some white led sidelight bulbs and there will soon be a hid fitted. i get bored quite easily and am quite impatient so whilst some of the things i do may not be ground-breaking or unique, i imagine they will be done in fairly quick concession. im currently playing with the dials and some blue leds as just changing the bulbs hasnt given the desired effect. heres a couple of pics of when i first got it, and in the next couple of days i will throw up some updated ones with a few of the things i have done so far http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...1/SDC12607.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...1/SDC12611.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...1/SDC12609.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...1/SDC12608.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...1/SDC12610.jpg |
as for the dials, you have to take the clocks out and sand the rear of the clocks to take the orange off them, but good luck with your build

It's a 120 yes? In the 1st post you mention 180 but saw the seats as being 120 design.
Still a good car considering the minor damage. |
oh yeah my bad. it is a 120 lol.
i got home from work today to find a nice parcel containing a leather steering wheel from a mk2, also my bargain find at halfords a nice momo handbrake handle for ?5. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/SDC12616.jpg also as for the dials i have decided to replace them with some white dials which will be exact replicas even down to the mg logo but will allow the blue leds to shine through a little better and the same guy is making me a white heater dial aswell so should look rather good |
looks a good base to work from. Dingoes took a few dings out of my wings and doors, about ?50 per ding.
Might be worth seeing if they could get the door OK, know you would have to spray it, but might save some hassle. :):):):) |
i used to work in a bodyshop so i have a good contact for smart repairs but i have to change to rear door anyway and if i can get a front door from the same vehicle the paint match between the 2 should be a bit better

The ZS looks pretty good condition, just needs tidying up here and there. Id get it looking all mint and fresh. Is it me or does that interior need livening up though? Looks really dull all grey.
Are you on xrtwo.com? Your signature/name sounds familiar |

yeah it needs a little bit of tlc. interior def needs sorting and its funny you should say that as im waiting on some material to retrim the doorcards and a few other ideas i have planned but im more a man of action than of words so il just do, and then post lol. oh also not on xrtwo.xom but i am on passionford and fiestaturbo.com:thumbsup: |
well, my material arrived today so me and the mrs decided to attempt to recover a rear doorcard to see how easy/difficult it was going to be.
first of all i got my material and glue out of the shed http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/SDC12618.jpg then i took the doorcard off which turned out to be a right **** as not only were there clips but some horrible adhesive which had gone rock hard so fell to pieces as i pulled it away. first thing was to remove the pull handle which was only 2 screws so nice and easy. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/SDC12619.jpg then my other half removed the old grey ***** from the doorcard. it came away fairly easy leaving this http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/SDC12620.jpg cut a piece to size so it was a little easier to work with http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/SDC12622.jpg mid-way through spraying and trying to leave no creases http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/SDC12621.jpg after a lot of messing around we ended up with this http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/SDC12623.jpg which then looked like this when i re-fitted it http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/SDC12624.jpg doesnt look too bad, however there are 2 small creases which were unavoidable due to the type of material used as it gave no stretch so unfortunately there is also a cut along the top of where your arm would rest. this was only a trial to see if/how it could be done. we are confident that we can get a much better finish with some suede or maybe even alcantara |
That doesn't look to bad though for a first attempt. I'd be chuffed with that
