My 120 was a 53plate and its commission number was ZS-15188 now the 180 is an 03 plate so older but its commission number is ZS-16473 which in my eyes makes it newer than my 120

they probably just build them in mass, some sit around for yonks waiting to be sold

Yes, mass produced and stockpiled until the orders come through and then they get moved and registered etc.

it was registered late. its a newer car (built later) but put on the road earlier
