iPod touch

My brother is off to afghan soon. Apparently he cant take his smart phone so is in need of an iPod touch for books and tunes etc.

Biggest capacity prefered!

Does it have to be an iPod? I've got a 16gb iPhone 4 for sale, he can just run it in Airline mode?
