My VVC coupe
Just thought I would put some specs up of my vvc as I have never put them up.
Got the coupe back in January 2004 when I was forced to get a car after my dad took the Corsa back after we had a row. (Not immature at all) My mate told me that one of his mates was selling this car. I didn't know anything about the Rover coupe at all at this point. Just saw it, drove it, thought it was pure fast man! (Step up from a 1.2 Corsa) Liked the look of it so bought it. She had done just 37k when I got it, now done 108k. It's a 98' S plate, one of the last ones I believe. I use it as my daily commuter to work etc and it has served me well over the years. In Feb 2006, the cambelt went after it skipped a tooth and caused a fair bit of damage. Got this repaired at a cost but was solid then at 100k the head gasket was going so got this sorted back in Dec 09. The guy that did it pointed out that the timing was out by half a tooth. Since I got it back it's been running better then ever. Much quicker then it was before. Has air con (but doesn't work) Rover coupe 1.8VVC In BRG (Later HAM) 108k Full sandstone leather interior (Had half leather previously but swapped it) Kenwood headunit Focal front components Kenwood rear components 10" Active sub Closed induction filter Cat back exhaust system with 4" slash cut tailpipe (Chav can) Standard 15" alloys Smoked rear lights The main letdown on the car is the bodywork. It was mint when I first bought it but it had been neglected a bit on my part. Both rear arches have rusted and there's a little rust near the doors at the bottom and the black panel between the glass panels on the roof and the windscreenis rusted quite badly. And I have some laquer peel above passenger door pillar. Got loads of bits sorted on it recently. Just mainly niggly things but also for MOT as this is due this weekend! Recently got a new bonnet and grille to replace the old creased one and the old one was really badly chipped. new one is immaculate compared to old one apart from a few light scratches. Also got replacement drivers side door as the old one was very badly keyed down to the bare metal and had some rust on it. New passenger side seal New wing mirrors Heater resistor just been replaced as heaters stopped working on 1 and 2. This is my 3rd one! ABS fuse put back in as I had no abs and the light was stuck on. New bonnet holder New front discs and pads (still s*** brakes) not quite sure why though. Fitted TF mirror with led lights and fitted led lights to interior light (Wow! what a difference! Whole car lights up) Replaced seat belt thing drivers side, as my seatbelt would not click in. New wiper motor as old one was sticking quite high on the windscreen. Sealed vents in boot and sealed roof panels. No more leaks for the first time in years! :D Replaced passenger side door handle. (1st one to go on this side. Been through 3 on the drivers side!) Track rod ends replaced New spark plugs Now things to be done in the next 1 month (By end of Oct 2010) Replace fuel filter New leads New PAS and alternator belts Oil change/filter 282 calipers to be cleaned and painted and then fitted with ebc discs and black diamond predator pads 262 rear calipers off zr160 to be cleaned and painted too and fitted New 17" alloys (you'll recognise them  off a forum member) Koni yellow shocks and pi springs all round Replace cam seal as it has started leaking in the last month or so :( Change power steering fluid Ducting for cold air filter as I currently don't have one! Still sounds nice though under high revs. Fix the damn rear demistor as it ain't working. Future plans: Possibly new exhaust system as mine has seen better days Possibly 270 cams Janspeed 4-2-1 manifold and downpipe Front polybushes Front top strut brace and maybe rear one and lower rear Sort out bodywork but expensive job! :( I'd like to get the air con working again. I think that is all for now. The bodywork is my main worry. |
sounds good get some piccys up:D

Here's a few pics of the vvc. It's screaming for a clean but I'll leave that until another day. Just changed the wheels on it today. Took the standard 15s off and put the TSW Evo-Rs on. Dan's (cableguys) old wheels from his green coupe turbo. In good nick, slight scuffs around the rims, I blame Dan's parking skills! :P
Took pics of the bad parts on the car, as you can see laquer peel and rust! :( I can't quite afford to get the bodywork sorted at the moment. Any recommendations on how to slow down the rot with the winter coming up? And just generally keeping the bodywork away from diseases from the winter weather? I've got a feeling winter is gonna kick in early this year. The last few days have been freezing up here. Sorry for the poor quality pics, it was getting dark at the driving range. Old wheels in the car: http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...b/SL380627.jpg New wheels on car: http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...b/SL380625.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...b/SL380624.jpg Interior needs a proper clean, it's stinking! http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...b/SL380628.jpg Arch 1 :( http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...b/SL380629.jpg Arch 2 http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...b/SL380631.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...b/SL380633.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...b/SL380635.jpg Spoiler: http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...b/SL380637.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...b/SL380636.jpg Laquer peel: http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...b/SL380632.jpg The car just passed it's MOT on Wed 29th Sept! :D Best MOt it's had yet. Just 2 lightbulbs had to get changed. So I'm chuffed to bits. Got one advisory which is that both front shocks are leaking but I ain't too bothered about that. Just paid for some Koni yellow shocks and PI springs which will go on hopefully in the next 2-3 weeks. Was gonna swap the ignition leads over as it's starting to take a bit longer then normal to start now with the recent damp and cold weather we have had up here! But this will have to wait another day. Really didn't fancy standing outside in the rain today. Also gonna change over the fuel filter see if it helps a bit more with my consumption. Can't remember the last time this was changed to be honest! |
Nice looking coupe.
It might be worth replacing the front wings for ones in better condition. The rear arches could be treated with a rust converter, it won't look pretty, but will stop them getting any worse over the winter. |
Thanks, I might just have to do that. Can't really do much else tbh :(
|
rear rust doenst look too bad tbh, it could be saved:)but want to treat it before winter, i think those tyres look a little small maybe some 205 45's instead? will look better lowered but:D really like the tomcats
|
45s will rub unfortuntately when lowered so gonna stick with the 40 profiles. I'm not too sure about the rust. I think it will have to be cut out tbh.
|
wee bit welded in n some filler over it to shape it nicely:),
|
Nice coupe.
Rust doesn't look too bad actually, would touch up quite easily for the winter. |
Get the rust sorted with some Hydrate 80 from Bilt Hamber, grind the rust away to see how bad it is, it may be holed!
Grind back to bare metal, treat with several coats of Hydrate 80 this will turn Black/Purple, if the arch is whole and not hole, lol, then you can run about with the Hydrate 80 on until you get it sorted. |
