difficult gear change
 

Hi guys, the zs is sold and being picked up monday, but all of a sudden having difficulty changing gears, am worried as I told the guy on the phone that it drives like a dream, which it does, but driving it this morning changing gear was difficult! Any ideas? I'm not really any good with mechanics, would a garage be able to sort it quickly and cheaply??? Just want the car to be fine for this guy so he can enjoy it as much as I have.

It sounds like the clutch slave cylinder mounting bracket may be failing, if you've caught it early enough it'll just need a new bracket.

They are available off ebay for about a tenner.

it was cracked so changed it, but sadly still have same issue :(

Changed for a known working one?

Might need to bleed the cylinders... or replace them I guess...

i had same problem, slave cylinder bracket was cracked, so i changed that along with the slave cylinder, problem still carried on, so i changed the master cylinder and noticed the master cylinder bracket cracked aswell, so i changed that, all was fine for about 3 weeks, i had a race down the dual carrige way, and blew the clutch so had to replace that aswell, oh yer coz i was driving round for a while with the cylinders and brackets broke, i was ramming it into gear which knackerd my linkage, have u checked yours, coz that could cause hard gear changes aswell, what ever u do, dont drive it like that coz it will end up costing u more money:(

It fits MG ZS's etc, advert just says LandRover & Freelander? Is it difficult to fit?

Yes,it fits the ZS, easy job, unclip the cylinder from the bracket, remove old bracket, fit new bracket, and refit cylinder, no bleeding required.:)

The pin between the master and pedal wares. 1/2mm of ware can give loads of travell before the clutch bites.

If you press the pedal you can see how much travell you loose before the master clevis starts to move. the clevis also wares oval increasing the problem.

I find drilling the the pedal and fork out to 3/8" and replacing the clevis pin with a 3/8" version removes the play and gives a larger ware surface for a more permanent repair!!
