MGF Steering wheel on ZS?
 

I'm sure I read on a forum some time ago that some people had put an MGF steering wheel on a ZS? The thinking being that a slightly smaller steering wheel would make it slightly easier to steer quickly.

I bought myself an MGF steering wheel (the later mk2 type) on eBay for £30 and attempted to fit it with mixed results.

Yes it fits, and yes it does slightly improve the ability to be more aggressive with the steering, but there are problems:-

1. The airbag connector is different, but that would be easy to adapt.

2. The horn earth cable is different, so the horn doesn't work, but again easy to adapt.

3. The ring on the steering column that locates into the steering wheel lugs (does the cancelling of the indicators) is 90degrees out when compared with the ZS steering wheel, so the indicators do not cancel correctly.


Has anyone else tried this?
Is there a way to adapt the indicator cancelling rings/lugs?
Or should I be using an earlier or later MGF steering wheel?

Personally, I think the R45 leather wheel with fatter area around the thumbs, is better and fits straight on.

The How-To doesn't mention the problem of the indicator cancelling ring being 90 degrees out. Or is that solved by the adapter kit that was mentioned?

Think so mate, never fitted one myself, but I know there's some small cylindrical metal adapter that's needed if you want the indicators to cancel.

The first thing I did when I got my mk2 was take the MGF wheel off (it went on the ZR) and put my 45 wheel on.

I've had a 45 one but prefer the TF one. Just feels right and in comparison to the standard ZS wheel that would be like steering a bus now.
