Hi I've just worked out my mpg.2.5 v6 and it came up with 15.7 I used 20 quid of fuel for 67 miles surly this can't be right any ideas

How have you measured it?

Only sure fire way is to brim it, then record the mileage and petrol you put in the next time that you brim it.

Or - you've been caning it ..... ;)

For that mpg figure you must have been close to tracking it!

I haven't drivin it that hard not to have it that low norm speeds

As per Dan - The only accurate way to measure consumption is tank full to tank full.

The fuel gauge is only a guide.

Filled up at the top of Ben Nevis, coasted down its windy road for 20 miles and filled up a third of a gallon!

Nah, lost a couple of receipts, I will go in at some point with some "average dummy receipts".

There are a few genuine 30+ entries including a 37. There are also a couple of 15 mpg....

Modern cars use more fuel coasting in neutral then rolling in gear as the ECU switches off fuel as the engine slows until just above tickover speed.

I went on a site and worked it out surly can't be that low wouldn't mind mind if it was a twin turbo

as said, you need to brim the tank (from the same pump ideally) and run the trip vs L put in....

a part fill is never a true factor.

I log the ZS's milage and L in a spreadsheet - used to be just on paper - and over the years it is always 40-45... my 'best' was 32mpg.... stupid faulty injectors and a lead right foot...

New car coming in a few months, will be half that.. probably worse (am expecting 15!)

As everyone keeps saying - you can not work out consumption from half a tank.
The gauge isn't accurate enough to show exactly how much fuel is in there.
You need to fill the tank to the brim, use the car, and fill to the same point.
You can't even rely on the low fuel light, it comes on a different times depending on factors such as driving style, weather and even the slop of the road.

And, as I said above, I have had a couple of 15mpg tankfuls in the past so it's possible.

You may as well pull random numbers out of the air rather than trying to guess it from the fuel gauge and 20 quid.

Needs to be brim to brim, ideally over a few tankfulls to be meaningful.
