A Tunnels run.............................. Sounds good!!!!!
:beer::beer::beer: |
Dropped by a bodyshop this morning to get a feel for the work required and price for flaring the arches, reshaping the bumpers etc. He said he could roll the fronts and shape the bumper to match as these are pretty good to start with. The rears require more work as little to work with but he can panel beat them out and heat the bumper to reshape it to suit. With that done and painted around £500-600. So the current set-up will clear at all times and no rubbing. We'll see if the BTCC kit comes to fruition as that has gone quiet so I have another avenue to go later on.
|
Rear camber adjusters fitted today, quick clean and polish but no time for photos! Rubs too much when 4 up!
|
Rear seats out again, simples.

Yea but thinking about it again it was nice when it was lighter but a tad noisy! I don't need the rear doors :whistle:

Bit of an update.
Alcantara has already gone and stripped permanently this time! Currently have a Corbeau Club Sport fibreglass bucket seat. Spent yesterday on the zed. Removed the AVO coilovers and fitting a set of GAZ in their place, got some setting up to do. I was worried about this as the AVO set up was superb so need to replicate this on the GAZ. First test was aweful, too soft and bouncy! Adjusted the rear upper arms a little. Also fitted the BuddyClub adjustable front upper arms, got some setting up there as well. Also got a set of polybushed front lower arms to clean, paint and fit. Might spend some time this morning doing some adjustments to get it where I want it, however feeling a little stiff after yesterdays work, oh the signs of getting old! :laugh: |
Sounds fun lol
Are you likely to get her out on track this year? Would be interested in seeing how it works and your thoughts |
Coilovers you say………… lol

Looking forward to seeing it, where it should be, MG's on Track at Goodwood!!
:beer::beer::beer: |
I was asked about the zed's spec and as this one has been work in progress over the last 10+ years I guess I ought to list the work done. There have been various threads in various sections over the years but nothing in one thread. Nothing like some have done but I ain't finished yet! :laugh:
I'll update this as I go as I know I have a list on the home pc with what's been done. |
Thought I had better do some updates. Well the zed is sorned and as it is having starting issues I have just left it. It's not looking happy but life is throwing other things at me which are more important than the car.
|
Look forward to the updates! You can buy dry ice from gas suppliers like boc etc, easy to get if you can google local places, it's soooo much easier and better than using a heat gun and the metal is left scratch free and clean after.

This was the install on my mk1
https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...a4&oe=5837529F (a bit grubby but you get the idea) I plan to tee the throttle by-pass into the main hose as currently it draws hot air at tick over so the ECU applies the correct map for a hot intake. As soon as you start to drive it has to adjust to a much cooler intake. On the mk1 I still had the resonator box in place and the car tended to run about 5' above ambient. On the mk2 there is no resonator box and it seems to be up to about 8' above. I plan to cover the gap under the chassis rail with a plastic panel to stop heat from the radiator drifting into the under wing area. |

you are right thats FILTHY...... |
Yes that's the idea James. Just been outside to do some more work bumper off, crash bar off. Found a pin size leak in the radiator, so that's got to come out now. So will be stripping the aircon system for sure as access will be easier. Found some rust around the front seams.
|
More done tonight. Headlights out. Condenser removed, some aircon pipes. Quite a few rusty brackets and fixings found. Rad fan connectors won't budge, had to cut the wires. It's starting to look like a breaker! Next will be to get the nose up on stands and drop the radiator as this needs either recording or a replacement. Then I can remove the aircon pump.
|
Good man. :clap:

I've taken some pics, will post them later, too tired now.
Managed to remove the radiator, engine mount, auxiliary belt, aircon compressor and the aircon pipes. My idea many years ago to use stainless hex socket button heads on the slam panel was a bad as couldn't undo them! Had to drill them out as the hex rounded off! |

Looking sorry for itself! Ordered a few bits to get me moving. Non air con aux belt and a pair of steel trailer arches :sly: Machined up a new reducer from Delrin for the BMC to TB as the BMC one was oval and not gripping the hose, so a thicker walled one was the way forward, nice snug fit on the BMC and hose. |
A few more bits off and found some rust that needs treating around the front tow brackets and inner wings, dirt traps. Looks like one bit may need a plate welding in place, won't know until I get the wheel off and remove the sealant etc.
Just done a dummy BMC install where the battery would normally be, ideal position and I have the necessary hoses already, little mods to do to make this work. Just ordered a new flexible hose as the current one is well past it. Got a few brackets to machine wire brush and ready for paint, might as well whilst it is in pieces! I can see this work snowballing and becoming something different! |
Good man. :trampoline:

Well a trip to Halfords ended up over £40 lighter, spray hammerite (blue), rust treatment, stonechip spray and a bottle of CO2 for the welder, hopefully get that working again. So that's me ready for some more work tomorrow and thereafter. Got a few brackets to sort and after getting the lower rad fan brackets off they need a couple of bits turning up on the lathe as they have rusted away so much.

If you need any help let us know......................always glad to help keep the blue beast running....
