Gas strut conversion for the boot on a saloon?
 

As stated above, is there a conversion kit to put gas struts onto the boot of a ZS saloon. I opened my boot today, reached in and was clouted on the back of the head, not to mention the bloody catch caught in by shirt collar, so I was literally trapped for a few seconds!

Yes you can but you can also reposition the spring to give it more lift

I 2nd that, moved mine and it pops open and stays up...............

There is no kit available as far as I know but a couple of folks have fitted their own.

If you have the Big spoiler then it helps to empty the water out now and then
just undo the lower bolts on each side to drain.

Ok, I'll try to reposition the spring first. Anyone got any advice or pics of what is required?

Ahh, I'll try the water draining trick too!

If you look at the torsen bar, there is two positions the spring can go in, need to move it forward to the other position with a lever

Just moved the torsen bars and it seems to have done the trick - I'll keep an eye on it next time I'm out in high winds at the supermarket! One point I'd mention to others wanting to try this, is that one torsen bar is under stress when the boot is closed and the other under tension when it is open. Make sure you lever the right one when the boot is open/closed as trying to shift the one under tension isn't smart!
