April 2011 Tax Hike

Ive heard rumours that all ZS 180's will be taxed at ?425 for a year after April 2011 is this right???

Jay-ZS+ 25-08-10 04:40 PM

Was ment to change a few years ago, but Brown put it off for a year. Id be very surprised if they dont change it. Tree hugging loons

http://www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/search/vedSearch.asp

Theres a note at the bottom for the changing of bands.

I think you will find they are the new ved tax wich will only apply to new cars and for the first year only also known as the showroom tax, so the tax for the 180 before 2006 should stay around ?250 a year.

All cars with a CO2 value over 225 and first registered between 1 March 2001 and 23 March 2006 will be capped at band K during 2009 and 2010

Just put a bit aside every month................I wont give up my ZS just cos the road tax goes up. If my brother can afford his Audi R8, Merc M class and Merc SL AMG, then I damm well can afford one car lol.

ps..............I dont earn a tenth of his tax bill:(

MG ZS STE 26-08-10 11:51 AM

Thats a ridiculous amount to charge. for the first time i can remember my tax will be more than my insurance.

Disgusted from birmingham!

Marky Mark 26-08-10 12:00 PM

OMG that is crazy!! How do they justify that, we won't be able to do anything soon!

Going back to victorian times, we will all be on push bikes soon.

I may have to reconsider my zs if it goes up by that much, that works out to having to save just over 35 quid a month and thats just for tax, and doesn't include Mot, servicing or insurance.

Jay-ZS+ 26-08-10 12:08 PM

I think they should build it into fuel prices therefore those that use the road more pay more road tax. Also that way you wont get people driving with no tax.

You mean like other countries?

Would mean that even foreighn people are paying for the roads as well!

However they won't do that because it would upset the Foreigners and cause mass job losses!!

Bobdope2002 26-08-10 02:17 PM

Gonna Get Mine MOT'd This Weekend and if It Passes Im GOing To seriously consider selling as at the moment with the price of petrol, insurance and now Tax going up i cant justify owning such an expensive asset as if it does go to that theyres no way i can use it :(

daytona365 26-08-10 02:24 PM

DON'T do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I earn just over ?14000 pa, and I am damm well going to keep my ZS.

The thrill of the noise, speed keeps me alive. Even driving a moped will cost you money, but will cost you more in boredom..........:axe:

I earn ?11.000pa before tax which equates to about ?830 odd a month.......

Im left with about ?200 a month to myself which isnt even enough to tax the thing for 6 months :(

I just cant afford it no more i need to downgrade to sommat smaller have been thinking about Festa Rs Turbos TBQH

Mebbe more to insure but the tax bracket is much lower

I was in a decent job that paid well but decided to go to uni :slap:

So swapped the decent job and eating in restaurants for being a student working behind a bar and eating noodles at stupid O'clock on a monday night after cheap drinks in the SU  But alot happier regardless :D

Give it 2 months and I'll be 24 :thumbsup::beer2:

midcuk 26-08-10 05:27 PM

must admit if it goes up i will be selling up and going for something with more power, love the car but cant justify that price for 200 horses not good economic sense.

idge2003 26-08-10 07:17 PM

I earn what I consider to be a very good wage but I wouldn't pay that for the MG to a government that are using "GLOBAL WARMING" as a tax scam!

My 7 series is more powerful, quicker and a damn sight more comfy than the MG and will cost me ?205 for a year when it's due which is the beauty of it being pre2001!

Brett

caled 26-08-10 07:29 PM

Any idea what VED they'll charge on a '97 escort with a modified engine? If its standard ?245, then thats ~?200 saving on tax that'll just about cover dropping a 2L zetec into my 'scort... Hm.

daytona365 26-08-10 07:33 PM

Im an ancient 43!!!!!!!!!!! My pay is crap,, cos my firm pays such a low salary and hypes it up with bonus, ok in old days when people had their Fords serviced at our garage.

I earnt ?150 less month than the same month last year........And for 2010 we had a 0% pay rise. Still find the dosh to keep my ZSthough. It keeps me sane.

Bobdope2002 26-08-10 07:36 PM

Bye Bye Zs 180's

Been nice knowing ya :(

That sounds so very sad but true for some of us, I can't justify paying 425 quid for a car too tax for a year plus other running costs and insurance!

I earn fairly good money, but I am single at the mo, and have a mortgage to pay, plus bills etc, I have had too cut back already on some luxuries, I hope the 180 won't have too go? Still looking for a rich lady in her forties to take me under her wing! lol :smile2:

Nah, your not alone lol I am 42 in November!! :fun:

ZS 27-08-10 07:16 AM

Personally I wouldn't say i earn a huge wage... but its certainly not crap! (mid to late 20's) I'm 28 in a couple weeks and have a mortgage, rent, car finance and bike finance to pay.

On top of that I'm a single father of two (living with me, 3 and 4 years old) and my family are scattered around the UK (plymouth, bristol, London etc) so no short journeys for me :)

However, I will not let this government dictate what car I can drive! I've had this 8 year old ZS180 for 5 years now, and I damn well intend to keep it!

 Too right! It's just such a pity the zs only sits in the top bracket by 2g!! It's hardly a supercar. It does tempt me in to getting janspeed manifolds, if I going to be payin for emissions may as well make the most of it!

TBF, I can't see why the emissions are classed as so high? My MOT's all say its less than that and under the new measurement system its more like 218g... or so I'm told anyway...

Honestly I think the government should change a cars band based on last MOT... That way people would be forced to look after their cars more or pay more in tax... But hey its all a scam to get as much money as possible out of people!!!

StragglaSteve 27-08-10 09:42 AM

Too right there Mr ZS!

surely theres some way to show the tax people what your REAL emissions is?

my 120 is always MUCH lower then expected!!

but then my 120 will be ?180 for the year so im not complaining much ;)

But i cant see how a "Road Tax" can be based on Emissions? as emissions in no way equate to the likely use/damage to our roads... so yeah, big old government scam!

ZS 27-08-10 09:50 AM

Because its no longer "Road Tax" its an environment Tax (AKA VED)...

Besides last I heard the money made on VED is given to the NHS... to fund all the foreigners health care!! :boxing:

Jay-ZS+ 27-08-10 09:57 AM

As far a I believe it a 5th of road tax is spent on the roads the rest as said goes to other services and to help fund wars abroad!!

Bobdope2002 27-08-10 01:31 PM

we shall see how she goes in under an hour on her MOT If its a failiure i dont have the funds to fix it so she will be sorned and possibly sold

not happy

Boot Hill Bandit 28-08-10 02:02 PM

well I looked into this today and providing your ZS180 was registered before 23 March 2006 we get put into band K which even if the CO2 figures exceed band K we only pay ?245 for the year or ?134.75 for 6 months

So ZS can stay in the garage and my ZT190+ can be kept! :D going to buy her some toys now lol

Supercharged_Z 28-08-10 02:39 PM

my tax was 135 quid for 6 months the other week..

Jay-ZS+ 28-08-10 03:29 PM

Yer this will come in April 2011 which is why my tax is next due at end of feb ;)
Ao i can get another year at current rate By the end of which I may have something else

Nice!!! bit of retro Ford!!

I was considering my Brothers Rover 45 1.6 if I had to lose both the MGs! either that or a forum members ZS120.

KevG 28-08-10 06:17 PM

If the VED prices go up from ?245 at the moment which is ?20.42 per month (based on a MGZS 180 registered after 2001) , then the increase is only an extra ?15.83 per month, if you go with out one weekend per month of drinking then you can tax your car.

leezs110 28-08-10 06:44 PM

This tax band thing is disgusting the motorist is an easy target & being bullied here!

The Government is doing this :spank: to us! & i guess as the last Government f***** the economy up then things wont get any easier in the years to come!

I`m glad i went for my 110 last year as i was looking at 180`s myself but felt the little 110 still had the looks & the cheaper running costs made it the viable option for me! :-D

Well put my man, i could never get my head around people selling up the first time around, due to the impending road tax, just put it into perspective!
