Car insurance who do you use?

It's that time again for my insurance renewal and its gone up again so time to look about.

I'm with Sky Insurance and have been for 4+ years now but think I may have to go elsewhere this year!

Adrian Flux have given me a good quote at nearly £80 less than my renewal but the excess is higher!

Just wondering who else are good any suggestions would be a help!

Cheers Brett

idge2003 06-08-12 02:04 PM

I would not normally look at places like the Post Office as I just assume they wouldn't cover modified cars!

Worth a call though.

Just had a renewal quote from Admiral and they wanted £750 phoned there customer service to see if they could price match Swiftcover who quoted me £325 ... but the best they could do was £725.

When i said i wanted to cancel they said id have to send a copy of my insurance policy to them with a cover note saying i wished to cancel..so i said its ok ill just cancel my renewal payment.
Girl on the phone didnt seem too happy about that but finally agreed to send a pre paid envelope to send it in :).. needless to say i wont be sending anything .

As if Swiftcover's quote wasn't good enough after sending off my proof of NCB i got an email back today saying id got it wrong and i was entitled to 2 years more NCB than i had been quoted ..
and there crediting me with £8.06 id over paid :happy2:

POMPSKI 06-08-12 07:21 PM

No matter how cheap swiftcover are, I would never go with them again.

_lecro_ 06-08-12 07:47 PM

Care to expand on that ?

daytona365 06-08-12 08:15 PM

I find, its best to look around. A company that was expensive last year may be cheaper this year. With Hastings Direct at mo, but they were out of the running last year! My premium at mo is £369.49. One reason its cheap is I said NO to legal cover, and breakdown. You have to be careful of the "add ons" I have my own legal and breakdown. Garage, limited mileage, plus my job is low risk. Lucky I live in a low risk postcode..............Its not easy...

andy-81 06-08-12 08:31 PM

Yeah adding on to the post code thing,it does make a large difference I was pi55ing about on the confused.com site and I put my post code in and it was 359.24 and then put in my grans postcode and it was 30 quid cheaper!!

Very true. When I was still married, my car a Rover 214SEi was insured with the co-op. I moved out and stayed with my parents in a much nicer part of the town. Clean, could leave doors open you know... Anyway rang up the insurance to tell them my new addy, they wanted another £90!!! I said why? Reason my new postcode had more claims than the old one. I said thats cos no-one in my old area had insurance to claim on lol. They said sorry, £90 please.

Thats why where I live, its so cheap, as I live above a shopping estate, so the majority of postcodes dont have car insurance, so the claims per person are very low.:rofl:

guru 07-08-12 12:48 AM

My cars are a mix of Swiftcover and Tesco, although Swiftcover quoted less on all 3 last year I couldn't be bothered to move my policy over for the sake of a tenner.
I've very lucky to live in the middle of what must be one of the cheapest postcodes in England for insurance. My ZT-T 190 came in at £230 this year, although oddly the renewal on the ZS is actually higher at £280!!!! Must just be down to the theft risk / accident rates on the 2 cars I guess.

mattie007 07-08-12 09:10 AM

Chris Knott for me. For the last 3 years I've paid £250. 26, 7 years NCB, all mods declared.

Nobrainer 07-08-12 09:43 AM

Aviva. Have given me the cheapest quote for several years now. ZS is quite heavily modified and Flux said they wouldn't touch it but they did. Slight difficulty with the guy on the phone, didn't have a clue, but I gave him all the details and he seemed happy. Adrian flux told me modified cars can be cheaper as they are seen as low risk enthusiasts cars.

I just got a quote of £1211 from these!

I will be 36 years old at renewal and have 10+ years no claims!

I'd hate to think what they are charging new drivers!

Well first off, a windscreen replacement freezes your NCB.

More worrying however, is that I cancelled on the phone (after they literally begged me to stay) and got my confirmation email, and headed off to gibraltar with my squadron. After a week of sun I turned my phone on to check messages, had literally 25 saying my insurance is up for renewal, they have tried charging my card but it is no longer available, (important to also point out that auto renewal was switched off) as I had a new bank card. Then I got one final message saying

"thank you for your payment of £925 (three times previous price), thankyou foor choosing swiftcover"

They had charged a card that they never had details for, never ever! How did they get hold of my details? Luckily they refunded me and apologised. But never again.

Adrian Flux - since 18 yrs old = 14 yrs now!!!

Forgot to phone up and haggle, 612, 11yrs no claims, etc etc protected bla bla

thats with breakdown, accident cover etc and monthly payments

will ring up tomorrow and see if i can do anything

chris knott good then??

stamford 08-08-12 07:16 AM

I'm currently with Adrian Flux due to the level of covered mods. However since replacing the interior etc I shall be looking elsewhere with notified but not covered mods. No point considering their worth these days. Was paying around £500 but I do insure two other cars and the full NCB is on the Landy. Admiral.............what a joke, all three were more expensive with them and I am paying alot less with three different insurers.

MGF is with Churchill.
Landy is with LV.

p_b82 08-08-12 10:35 AM

i used Aplan, and Greenlight the past 2 years.

but ring round all the brokers and try specialists to get them all to lower their prices. it takes some time but my premium has not moved for the past 3 years as a result.

stamford 17-09-12 05:56 PM

Fecking renewal time and Flux are taking the ****! £630! So trawling through all the sites and some are having a right larf! I cannot believe the amounts being quoted, wish it was not modified as Directline quoted me £228, so far the best cover has been £425 which I still find alot.

Anyone got any updates on the contents to this thread? Will sticky this so we have a list of who we used and why.

petet16 17-09-12 06:08 PM

It puzzles me how they work out quotes, the T16 zs is insured with Flux and this year was the same price as last year, I've used Flux for years for various modded cars and tbf they've been ok.

Last year the 180 was insured with axa through an online broker (yescarinsurance avoid like the plague), and doubled for me and Jill, so I went directly to axa and got exactly the same cover for half the price which makes me think yescarinsurance were taking a massive skim for themselves.

James Raby 17-09-12 06:09 PM

same here buddy!
Adrian flux really have taken the biscuit this year!!! was ok until I changed the insurance as Typhoon written off, Blue one nearly 700 with the bits needed

Smokey 17-09-12 06:11 PM

Privelege just renewed me with Kat as named driver. I'm 33 with 3 years no claims, Kat is 25 with 5 years no claims. £315 for the year on '04 mk2 180

stamford 17-09-12 06:24 PM

I've been on so many websites today I have lost track, had calls back and one hung up and didn't call me back!

Well just got off the phone to Greenlight after doing an on-line one earlier today and have got the best one yet, so I reckon thay have got the deal there, like for like cover and all the extras with a decent excess for £375 (annual).

Would have thought a multi policy would be better for you ....

Not at all Dan! I used to be with Admiral then one year I decided to check out other avenues and guess what? I saved a shed load of money by having three separate policies! So they are not as cheap as they put across. Besides they wouldn't entertain a modified policy at the time. Wouldn't use them again as the last time they were very rude.

M17TT180 17-09-12 07:30 PM

Swiftcover came out the cheapest for me.

Steven11 20-09-12 03:25 PM

£400 a year fully com with Admiral with my wife on it (yes i said it). And she has 6 points on her licence unlike my clean one.

stamford 21-09-12 11:23 AM

Surprising what a phone call can do. Just rang Adrian Flux to cancel my renewal as they wanted near on £660 this year which I told them was laughable, gone up every year. Then diverted to someone else, checked the quote I had and dropped it to £365. I have like-for-like cover on all mods, the usual cover etc, etc, also dropped the annual mileage to 7500, so sticking with them for another year. Next time I shall be doing the same, check around and call them back.

I did complain as to why it was so high and told them you will be losing business because of this.

p_b82 21-09-12 11:39 AM

that is the same tactic i use every year.

I get my renewal from A-plan, ring Adrain FLux, sky and finally greenlight get quotes from them all and ring a-plan with the lowest one they provided and askthem whether they will match it.

2 years ago they didn't and so i had greenlight for a year - but as i was a 'returning new customer' last year a-plan matched the price.

I suspect that it will be off to greenlight again for a year - wonder if i will get it near to the £500 i been paying for the past 3 years... dam i hate living in a city sometimes!

stamford 21-09-12 11:49 AM

Well until the phone call Pete I was going to switch to Greenlight! No point if they can drop it, may as well keep the paperwork trail to a minimum.

KirkJames 21-09-12 05:02 PM

Just got mine through and stuck with Admiral as I got the renewal down to 360 fully comp and protected with 200 voluntary excess. Can't argue with that!

bowthruster 16-12-12 11:37 AM

Insurance

had the zs180 for a week now,and it coincided with my renewal, shopped about and the best was rac, protected ncb,200 excess f/comp,£192
