how to unlock the locking wheel nut?
Needless to say I didn't get the tool for the locking wheel nuts. After a bit of a google I found a few people say you need a number to order a new one. Can someone please tell me what format the number is and how many digits?
Thanks! :smile2: |
The number should be on a card with the manual and service record.
Have you got the O/E spec cream cheese locking nuts? There are otherways to remove them. |
hi man
not sure what you mean by 'cream cheese' but the front look like there is a key-slot but my key doesn't fit Ihave got some numbers in the service book but it doesn't say if they're for the nuts So I guess I'll be banging on a socket and getting them off and replace them with some off of ebay - any recommendations? Do you have one of these: http://www.eliseparts.com/img/up/02/29-243bc.jpg This is a tool to remove the cover. Should look a bit like this when cover is removed but could have one or two slots down the side. Just depends what nut you have. http://i.imgur.com/UbOIl.jpg?1 & this is the actual tool. http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/ItemImag.../KBM100140.jpg |
I think he means that the original locking nuts are soft metal and are easily removed with a smaller socket and a big hammer!
Had to do that to a set of mine once :) |
Or "toffee" would have been an acceptable alternative.

They are pretty flimsy to be honest. McGuard I think mine were?

This may help.
We have just had to scrap the Wife's 214 due to HGF. The locking wheel nut from her 1997 rover 214 is the same as my 2002 ZS. Loos like same locking wheel nuts across the range. |
They are the same but different. Its the socket that is soft. Seems to be made of brass. I couldn't get a socket onto mine so used a locking nut remover from halfords. Had to take it back once as I couldn't get the socket out but other than that it worked well. Garage wanted an hours labour to remove it :-(
