blue smoke on start up

so last weekend i drove from birmingham to silverstone and back, only at a steady 75 on the motorway and all gauges were ok, nothing to really set it aside from any other trip anywhere. then this weekend i started the Zed to get her out of the garage, and on start up, i noticed some blue smoke in the exhaust gas for the first 1 or 2 seconds, as soon as she was running properly after that initial rev they always do on start up she was fine. its the v6 lump, do i worry?

Valve stem seals possibly, I wouldn't be unduly worried.

ok, i do remember my old mondeo having a similar symptom. but that was a bag of nails anyway.

did you blip it when you started it? I found most kv6's do this

no, both this 1 and my old 180 MK2 start up at around 1500 and quickly settle down to 750-800 rpm.

Well I think its fairly normal tbh and I wouldn't worry. I have seen it on a few 180's at times. as long as its litrally for a second or two on start up

Try pressing the throttle to the floor 10 times when you first turn the on ignition. Once done start the engine and see if it still revs as high on start up. As for the smoke, it could be something simple like the inlet plenum is full of oil.

cheers fred. can i ask why 10 times on teh throttle? what will that do?

petet16 03-07-14 07:43 AM

10 pumps on the throttle doesn't do anything, does it ?.

Does on MEMS: TPS reset. But not sure on the 180 Siemens system
