Track Car...The Revival!
Just a quick not to confirm I have made a deal with Sam (ZS) to buy his engine and gearbox. Unless Sam posts it, I wont divulge the price as I know I got a great deal that could potentially damage other people sellings price.
Safe to say, I now have the new engine and gearbox, to be delivered some time in the near future! Yay!! Now, here's where I may need some assistance. Ideally I would be looking for somewhere to deliver the engine that would be safe and also be able to have my car there as I plan to change the engine myself with the aid of some eager members. Secondly, I will need an engine hoist to remove and refit the engines. Also, I am not rolling about with loads of tools so I am hoping between us we have the right ones! All in all, I am looking forward to progressing with the work, just another project on my list of things to do!! Hopefully the costs wont get much higher once I have the new engine. What other things will I need when changing the engine? Oil, coolant.... |
All my tools will be made available mate,I would also offer the use of my lock up but unsure whether we would have enough room although the car could be rolled in and out if needed.there is also the issue of getting it down here,as for fluids and the like I would cross that bridge when we come to it as that kind of thing will be the very last thing to do.either way wherever you get to do it I will weigh in with as much labour as I possibly can.

Always appreciated mate. I ultimately need to decide where the location is going to be for the engine swap due to getting the engine delivered. Don't want it delivered here if it ends up having to be transported elsewhere!
I can try to arrange the car to be transported to wherever the location is if needed. |
my new home has loads of room to store the car on a level surface and I could dry store the engine in my shed.
More than welcome mate. ? |

either of there houses would be good,am fairly local aswell to lend a hand if needed aswell
|
Probably the ideal location for the car and engine since everyone who can assist is nearby.
Shucks guys  |

However there is very little distance between Grimmys and mine. |
may be able to help with the install, see closer to the time pretty busy these days, got engines to put in myself unfortunatly

I assume the engine will need to be drained of all fluids (including gearbox oil) before transport (as otherwise will leak everywhere anyway...)
Biggest problem for me is removing the engine (although it will be done in the timescales) :) - if anyone down this way wants to give a hand with that then I'd be most appreactiative :) - Means engine hoist and pallet needed I guess! |
Not sure what I can do to offer as I have to watch my back and the fact that I am due in hospital very soon. Also hoping to go away end of the month on holiday, assuming the hospital don't cause any damage to me!
I could get a pallet, actually I think I have one tucked away from the last engine delivery! |
I'm so amateur, I don't have a rank! As said in text Sam, don't feel pressured to rush, as there is no hurry. I'm sure there will be someone near you as generous as the guys up here.
It's for the site track car after all!! Plus if the car is up and running well for next years track days, I will have the time to organise a meet down there too! |

Am I correct in saying the engine is 154kg and gearbox is 36kg... In which case its gonna be damn heavy... lol - Wonder where I can get a hoist from... |
I remember Corey, Jim and I lifted the last V6 into a sprinter van. Was not bloody easy but managed it! mick, is it better to leave the gearbox attached for on the pallet or will it need separated?
Hopefully youran will be able to cut us a deal too :D |
With the hoist are you intending to remove the engine and box where the car currently sits? I only ask as it'll be tough trying to move said hoist over the stones! I found it tough enough on a concrete drive trying to get it moved.
Box 36kg dry Engine 154kg dry I could possibly borrow the works hoist again, but it isn't easy to get it into the car and awkward to move around in order to close the rear door. I said I wouldn't do it again as it nearly did my back in and damaged the car. It would also need to be done over a weekend as it'll be needed again the following week, it is used to move tooling around the machine shop. Pity my trailer isn't road-worthy as I would use that to shift it. |
Have emailed my mate this morning to see what the score is on the pallet load.
Would suggest trying to keep it attached as one if possible, assuming the hoist is stable enough and that'll depend on the ground it is on. Plus it'll be a tight squeeze on one pallet if assembled, if split it'll need two palllets I reckon. |

Once on a pallet you will find it hard to move it, been then! Shared drive can be a pain!
