Number plate light unit

I bought the above item, but its totally different to the one in my car. My car came with a festoon type bulb holder. One was broke so I bought a replacement off someone on facebook. But the one I received was a more enclosed unit with a type 501 bulb. Did rover fit two types? Which one is the correct type?? I'm a tad confused:hmm:

mk1 and mk2 differences I would have thought. Or saloon/hatch?

The ones in my mk1 saloon look quite flimsy. Its just moulded plastic with 2 metal contacts attached. But the one I bought was a more sealed unit

The one you've been sent with a 501 bulb is mk2 unit.

Will it fit in the recess of a mk1 saloon bootlid?

If you take a look at item 10 on the link it has a picture of the 2 different types, I would say they're not easily interchangeable

I'll give it a try when I get home. From memory the lense shapes are the same. The issue may be the size difference of the 2 units and the connections

if your stuck leon i still have two in the shed, not off till tomorrow though

Fitted with no problems. Well I had to bend one of the contacts slightly. So now I have 2 working lights, but one is a festoon type bulb and the other is a 501 type bulb
