Thats the BMW derv lump, so us "L" Series ZS lot may not know too much, might be worth a quick look at, 75 & ZT Forum, and see if you can pick up some tips.

With me its just service history, belts, normal stuff. Suppose the clutch needs checking, had my one done ZS, at 75,000 odd. The dervs do push out a fair bit of torque. Tyres are another thing to look out for.

The M47 engine isn't a bad engine when it's working. It's when you get problems they get expensive. Injectors are known to fail, listen for a slight misfire at idle. The crank damper can fail causing a clatter until it breaks up completely. If the clutch fails you'll need to get a new DMF at the same time, it's also worth changing the slave cylinder while the box is off.
The lower engine tie bar is a known week point but an easy fix.
The EGR valve can fail but that is common to most diesel engines.
The good news is there isn't a timing belt to worry about.
It's a nice engine if you are a derv person.

Agreed. It's a proper sheep in wolf's clothing.
