puddle on the inside of the car not outside!

Afternoon all,

It is always one thing after another with this bloody car...

so it has been parked up for quite a while we tried to source an aircon pipe and failed - and when i picked it up i thought ' hmm odd the car is steaming up a bit more than usual while i was blatting home with the heaters on a bit

parked up at home and i have an absolutely soaked drivers floormat only...

Now it could conceivably come from anywhere the leak - as it was parked nose down - with a slant to the drivers side....

but if you lot were betting people where would you look first on the list of places to check?

it has had the screen replaced at the start of the year - but did not seem to leak from there before during the 'summer'

Aerial recently had to be replaced as it rusted through and out - is there a drain associated with the sunroof area?

nothing obviously wet to touch or any obvious track marks i could see - but of course it has been dry for a day or so - long enough for anything obvious to hide!

grr sometimes i wonder why the hell i dont just scrap the bloody thing to spite it!

thanks...

Where is the heater matrix ? If it was a ford thats where I would be starting but I havnt needed to look on one of these.

check the sunroof gutter that it isnt blocked, also on that side you have the bonnet release, this goes through a rubber grommit, on my old one this had come out and was letting water through there, on the A panel, bit of a git to get to

heater matrix is passenger side - behind the glove box - coolant is not dropping and the liquid did not smell of OAT - so i think it is external..

will check the bonnet release - the sunroof drains 'look' clear - but not sure how to test this/check it....

The heater matrix is actually behind the central consol at the bottom of the heater box.

I have no experience of a factory fit sun roof on the ZS but most cars have a pipe at each corner that run down the A and C pillers and empty in to the wheel well. It could be that if the car was parked leaning to the drivers corner that this drain wasn't draining properly so rain water was finding it's way to this corner instead of going down the drain.

The easiest way to clear the drain hoses is to blast compressed air down them.

ah learnt something new - i thought it was passenger side....

hmm - compressed air is something i am short of - thought that would be the (only practical) solution too...

Another possible source of leaks are the rubber covers on the bonnet hinges, if they get torn/misshapen water can find its way in, also the grommet under the expansion tank can leak.

thanks all - will check them all out and see what i can find...

Good luck. Would be intereted to hear what it turns out to be - bound to happen to others (probably me!) at some point.

well a quick (but cold) visual check has not turned anything up - apart from maybe one window dropped a bit - but i i also found a recurrence of water in the bottom of the sparewheel arch - my rear screen is leaking again it seems....

dont think the drip from that though would have caused the water to run all the way t the front of the car - but possible...

It is times like this that i wish i had access to a hose - would be quite easy to find the leak then - esp on a nice dry day like today!
