Testing cooling fan

I am looking to test the cooling fan in the Zed and I just need to know where the coolant temprature sensor is and do I need to drain the coolant first? 1.4 K-series

Just remove the connector on top , no need to remove the actual coolant sensor.

Okay so the fan works, now I just need to find out why it doesn't kick in when it should

Is the fan relay working ?

If it was the relay the fan wouldn't come on when you disconnect the coolant sensor.

I would get a OBD2 scanner on the car and see what reading the ECU is seeing for coolant temp, I bet it isn't the same as the dash gauge.

If it is faulty not only will the fan not trigger correctly, the ECU will be running an open cycle loop using more fuel.

When you change it you shouldn't lose much coolant if you work quick.
