I am realy not liking the alloys on my zs with tyres 195/40/17s Not good with the state of our roads. Does anyone else have these, how do you get on with them? Was thinking of getting some standard alloys :wacko:

Some 17" Straights with some decent 205/45/17 would be my advice :)

195?? Standard is 2054017
I run 2054017, price is more economical lol

205/45 are standard on 17", 215/40 is another option but not OE.

Cheers guys, i might see how i get on with the tyres i have but have already banged down some unavoidable craters.
The other thing i didn't mention was the Mrs likes to hug the curb while driving, frightens me to death although she only drives when i have had a few lol

195 isnt standard fit and im sure cud maybe invalidate your insurance if you crash (have to declare bigger alloys etc)

The Mk2's straights are right "B's", even a sniff of a kerb and its crunchhhhhhhhhhhh.

Even knowing how bad they are, I can still get too near, I bought Hankooks Evo 12, 205 x 45 x 17, hoping that they had a bit of a rim protector. Great tyres, grip well and give a good ride.

They dont give any more protection to the wheels though.

Or maybe its just my driving!!!!!!!!

I put Bridgestone RE050A's on my Mk2's 11 spokes - they seem to have an adequate rim protector (so far).
Makes me wonder what wheels the original poster has though - Mk1, Mk2 or completely non-standard?
16" hairpins are dead cheap, and there's so much sidewall on their tyres that you really have to clobber a kerb to do any damage to them.
But then Mk1 17" straights are pretty cheap too, look nicer and if you put tyres with a decent rim protector on them you should get the best out of the suspension.

:mml: Cheeky me and I have a set of Straights for sale with no tyres, want shot of them, no storage space.

No use to a 180 owner (as I don't think they fit over front clipers?) but my 120 had a much comfier ride with the 16" hairpins - shame they look crap next to Straights...
