It's not only vosa that can intentionally look for the smallest thing to fail a car on. a few years ago i got a "free" mot test from citroen main dealer for my saxo and the tester failed it because of incorrect headlight beam and the sat nav was mounted to high up the windscreen. To say i was not happy was an understatement. I removed the sat nav and asked if he would give me 5 mins to adjust the beam or if he would adjust it for me. He wouldn't he said i'd have to book in a retest and he was too busy that day and couldn't fit it in for another 9 days. What a coincidence outside of the free retest period. After a few choice words i left the garage and went straight to my regular mechanic who booked me in straight away did the beam adjustment then failed the car on emmisions. This just wasn't my day i thought. To cut a long story short the car no longer lives.

Can understand the beam as thats what gets tested but failing it on the sat nav fair enough if it couldn't be moved but im sure they could of been helpful and just took the satnav of the windscreen?

Just a way to try to make money..

Adamzs180 08-05-12 10:48 PM

yeah the tester was a right a**e. it wasn't so much he failed me on the beam, more that he couldn't give me 10 minutes with an allen key just to adjust it. then it would have passed, despite it failing on emmisions just half an hour later at the next garage.

idge2003 10-05-12 02:05 PM

Well I now have another 12 months MOT so think its time to get my new wheels and coilovers on! Also need to go through the garage and sort out all the bits I've collected for it over time!

Brett

peterzs 10-05-12 06:58 PM

Is good when they go through, think most seem to get through first time, without too many advisories.

As you say 12 months fun.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

Smokey 10-05-12 07:18 PM

I have mine next week. Have had to sort a few things first so have ordered:
-new plates (previous owner had wrong font)
-swap bulbs as currently HID's
-swap tail lights for originals (no rear reflector on my tinted ones)
-fix fog light LED switches (currently dont show tell-tale light)
-new front disks ordered to be fitted
-new wipers arrived today
-replacing 2 front tyres and buying extra mk2 wheel for damaged one

Hopefully wont need much in the MOT then!

peterzs 10-05-12 07:27 PM

Sounds like fun, hope it all goes easily!!!!!!

:wave::wave::wave:

Smokey 10-05-12 07:39 PM

Like that'll ever happen for me lol!!

peterzs 10-05-12 07:51 PM

Think you deserve some luck!!!!

guru 27-07-12 12:12 AM

Through on the second attempt with just some handbrake and headlight adjustment. Shame the electronics on the car decided to fry shortly after and it only managed about 30 miles after passing :(

Smokey 27-07-12 09:16 AM

Incidently, mine passed first time with no advisories when I did the above list (forgot about this thread!)

Sorry to hear about your problems though guru. Hope it gets easily sorted.

andys1981 27-07-12 03:17 PM

both my zeds passed with no advisories today, well chuffed,£60 well spent!!

dean0 04-08-12 12:59 PM

MOT this morning - passed of course, just 1 advisory but not a MOT issue anyway, slight leak from gearbox driveshaft oil seal

the testers name was M.G. Ali, this could have been a sign as Mrs Dean0 is called Ali!

Nice warm feeling now :happy2::happy2::happy2:

big_wasa 04-08-12 02:55 PM

ive got one on the 05 to do next week. I just need to replace the rear calipers first and finish the service. Fingers crossed.

big_wasa 08-08-12 05:17 PM

Well I took it with out doing the rear calipers.............................

And it failed on the rear brakes binding :slap:
So thats two spanking brand new calipes painted and fitted all before tea.
No other problems and no advisorys either.
So should be a pass tommorow..........:mml:

dean0 08-08-12 06:47 PM

ah....you even said you had them to change before the MOT

big_wasa 09-08-12 09:04 PM

And we have a pass.

But I can not tax the bloody thing as it has a disabled tax class

Ritchy 05-09-12 06:53 PM

thats the zr through its 3rd MOT since ive owned it, stuck a track rod end on before the test and it went through with no advisorys, not bad for a 11 year old car, still a shed though hahah

peterzs 05-09-12 07:06 PM

Expect nothing less Ritchy, from our Expertish!!!!!!!!!!!!

:band::band::band:

Ritchy 05-09-12 07:11 PM

its about to get another overhaul, replacement engine, new pads and discs, new wheel cylinders and calipers and a fluid flush, rear brakes stripped again and maybe the paintwork tarted up a bit

peterzs 05-09-12 07:14 PM

Got my one coming up soon, got to get it booked in I suppose!!!!!!!!!

:-D:-D:-D

Ritchy 05-09-12 07:16 PM

My wife doesnt keep a car long enough to have to worry about MOT's. 5 different cars in 5 years.

peterzs 21-09-12 09:32 PM

Well got it passed, failed :-( n/s lower steering joint cover split and a cut in the rear offside tyre, advisory on n/s cv boot. :yikes:

So had a new cover fitted, plus a new boot while it was stripped and a new Hankook Evo12.

Considering the state of the roads not bad I suppose.

Another 13 months fun!!!!!!!!!!

daytona365 02-10-12 03:50 PM

Mine passed today. NO probs at all, except, usual comment on " its too yellow"
Only downside is I now have one of the horrible nasty new pass bits of paper.

Maxfly 18-10-12 04:47 AM

Another years ticket for the green ane yesterday, no advisories and nothing needed. Expected something for the knocking at the front but all good. Only problem was he couldnt do it's minor service as she is too low for the ramps lol.
I MUST put my HID's back in though, halogen bulbs - yuck. hehe:D

peterzs 18-10-12 09:31 AM

Good news Maxfly, unless the roads have all been sorted since I was up there, which I doubt, dont know how your suspension, CV boots, etc. hang on in there.

:wizard::wizard::wizard:

sh4ggyd00 01-11-12 05:15 PM

so the zs has just failed its mot, on a few points:

n/s track rod end,
o/s cv boot,
rear pads,
and an exhaust clip that fell off when he touched it :(

but worst of all is the fact that i now hve to drive the fiesta to work in the morning

Ritchy 01-11-12 05:55 PM

All fairly cheap fixes:)

POMPSKI 01-11-12 05:57 PM

Id be tempted to use this as an excuse to replace the CV's & lower balls on both sides, and change the pads while there. Not so sure about the track rod end but you'll save alot of money doing them jobs yourself!

sh4ggyd00 01-11-12 06:55 PM

also forgot it needs 2 new tyres :(

luckly the mot tester is a mate so never normally cost a lot any, when i got hgf he only charged me 300 for a new head plus belts, water pump etc inc fitting :)

Ritchy 13-02-13 04:58 PM

Mot 6 passed. First advises ever! Play in ns upper arm(kbew that anyway) got one coming, and exhaust slight blow which i knew and got a janspeed on its way

peterzs 13-02-13 05:19 PM

Good result, can live with that!!!!

Maxfly 13-02-13 07:25 PM

Excellent stuff Ritchy, another years pleasure at the wheel eh :)

Ritchy 13-02-13 07:26 PM

Indeedy:)

zsserbia 20-02-13 12:22 AM

MOT passed yesterday, oh joy :mml:

peterzs 20-02-13 09:00 AM

Well done!!!

MickUK 04-03-13 08:36 AM

Just dropped the old girl for her MOT. Brought some spare straights at the weekend with new tyres so swapped them this morning:

Blade9274 04-03-13 09:46 AM

peterzs 04-03-13 10:18 AM

Good luck all, they do seem to get through without too much hassle.
