MG ZS 2005 mk2 2.0TD 180 kit Spares or Repair NOW ON EBAY!

Hi Guys, Right i advertised on here before that i was breaking my ZS.

Unfortunately due to work commitments and other things i havent really got the time to keep it stored and keep slowly stripping it for bits. I know i would get the most money stripping it for parts but due to my work now being long hours, and a lot of it being away from home i just dont have the time anymore, so im going to sell it as it is, for someone else to either strip it for parts, or try to repair it.

Ill give you a brief history of the car, It is a 2005 54 plate MG ZS 2.0TD+ with the 180 kit on it. I bought it standard with 87,000 miles on it. I crashed the car about a month after i bought it, causing front bumper, wing, rear bumper and rear quarter damage. All of this was fixed apart from the rear quarter. I bought 2nd hand front and rear bumpers, and a brand new wing, which i had all painted. My friend did an experiment on the front and rear bumper for me, with some real carbon fibre, which looked amazing! I Think it now has in the region of 103,000 but i will check. I have owned the car for just over a year, and in that year i had changed the injectors for sdi injectors, put a k4.80 filter on, roose motorsport intercooler hoses, powerflow back box, wingy downpipe and de-cat pipe, and had the ecu re-mapped. After the ecu was re-mapped the car was running around 160bhp! but unfortunately it did not take long for me to chew the clutch!

I had the clutch changed, and then a few weeks later it felt like the car was getting slow. I took the car back to where it was re-mapped as they wanted to fiddle with the map to see what they could get. It only achieved 140bhp on the rollers that time, with a strange power curve, as if the engine was being strangled somewhere! I originally thought this was the new clutch (it was a techni-clutch and after it was fitted i heard bad stories about them so i jumped to the conclusion it was this). Therefore i had the clutch changed again. Since this moment the car has never started again. The glow plug light comes on, and stays on. Ive had auto-electricians baffle their brains on the car to try and work it out, but nobody i have had look at the car can tell me what is properly wrong. I've checked all the earth straps, changed a few sensors that the diagnostics came up with, but still nothing. The two main suggestions i have as to what is wrong, is either the ECU, or the injector pump (the ecu on the injector pump could have gone). If it is the injector pump has gone it would suggest why the power was down, as it was not delivering enough fuel to the engine, and having done 100,000 miles going from 111bhp to 160bhp may have just pushed it over the edge!

I have 2 sets of seats available, 1 set is the set pictured below, although this is not the set currently in the car. In the car at the moment is a set of mk1 half leather with red inserts.

The car itself has some parts missing now (as i sold some parts when i was breaking it)
SDI injectors were sold (although i will include the old standard injectors)
Powerflow back box is sold
wheels were sold (it will just have some standard steels on so it can roll)
Roose Motorsport intercooler pipes were sold
front bumper was sold
Front and rear bumper 180 kit spats/body kit parts are not on the car, but for the right price will be included.

i dont really have a price in mind, but im open to offers! so pm me if your interested!

ZS 21-07-11 10:29 AM

I am waiting for a payout from my insurance company... when this arrives, if the car is still drivable I may be interested...

Is it drivable? any TAX and MOT? is it an cat d registered or anything?

lewys 21-07-11 11:04 AM

It is not drivable. I suspect either injector pump or something electrical. It has got tax and mot but I would have to find out. The crash wasn't registered.

Yeah sorry my fault for not reading the first post

I'll check to see how much it is to get it trailered down this way :)

it would be useful to find out how long is left on the tax and test...

Also are any of the pictures "current" ?

lewys 21-07-11 11:23 PM

The last picture being the crashed ones is a current one. I will get more and upload them! And also find out other info!

lewys 21-07-11 11:24 PM

lewys 22-07-11 10:02 AM

Right here are some current pics. found out tax does run out at the end of september, still need to find out about mot. Price has dropped to 350 as a bloke is coming on saturday to take the door cards and rear electric window motors! i will also tidy the interior up as well first! i will also put wheels on the front so it can roll

Hmm, ?272 with 4 hours to go - any bets on what it will end up at?
(I quite like the look of this one)

ZS 02-08-11 01:14 PM

Shame I don't know what my insurance payout is yet (they only took the car away to asses it today!)

Enright 02-08-11 01:26 PM

Wow, I bet Lewys is happy - he got some good money for that! It was above my limit though... :(

yes cant say im not pleased with that! :)

Enright 02-08-11 02:05 PM

Oh well, if you get let down, give us a yell.
Can't help wishing I'd been around a couple of weeks ago to get it for the bargain basement price though! ;)

lewys 02-08-11 02:17 PM

will do mate!

Enright 19-08-11 10:53 AM

After the original sale fell through, Lewys and I have agreed a deal which I think we're both happy with, so I'm looking forwards to picking the car up next week.
I can't wait to be a nice respectable ZS owner - so much more civilised than what I'm currently associated with, hahaha!!! :D
Anyway I could do with finding a replacement bumper (ideally identical to the one that was originally removed), but at a pinch anything that will get me road-legal, so if anyone knows of one please get in contact.
Also, as the non-running issue could be down to ECU failure, I'm trying to find out if I can fit a MkI derv ECU & 5AS to the MkII - I know that the MkII is fully OBDII compliant so you can reset fault codes etc, but I'm not too concerned about that. i just want it to stand a chance of working. Question is, does anyone know if it would?

Probably not... unless you change all sensors and sounders from the alarm as well?

petet16 19-08-11 12:49 PM

No, I'm pretty certain you wont be able to use a mk1 ecu, you have 2 options really either find a mk2 derv being broken and use the ecu, scu, fobs and transponder from the ignition barrel and swap them all into your car, if you go down this route disconnect the battery first as the scu doesn't like being disconnected/reconnected while powered up.

The other option is to find someone who can do a full diagnosis and repair of the parts fitted at the moment.

Oh dear, I didn't know that might be an issue. I knew that the ECU & 5AS (and hence the remote key fob) were coded to one another, but after that I thought that the alarm simply took an output from the 5AS. So are the MkII 5AS's different to the MkI's as well?

Edit: Thanks for your reply too Pete - I thought I'd found one on eBay, but it's a petrol model. I'll have to keep an eye out for a MkII derv ECU as it's probably the way to go if the usual fault-finding/repairs fail.

petet16 19-08-11 01:50 PM

No probs, the mk2 doesn't use 5AS btw

Great site, I know if I posted some of the stuff I do on here, over on some other sites I'd be torn to bits and spat out in little bits.

Least you dont have to worry or think twice about posting questions, (like:- I cant get the trip recorder thingy to work).:wub::smile2::smile2:

:beer::beer:

lewys 24-08-11 11:07 AM

i hope its a cheap fix for you as well mate :) would love to see it back on the road (although it would also upset me a little as well!) i just didnt have the time anymore :(
