KV6 ZS 180 Engine

Just had the owner of my old ZS, he is looking for a replacement engine after belting a rock in the road and putting a hole in the current engine. Have not seen it myself so can't give a more accurate picture of the damage than that. He did say he pulled straight over and turned engine off but that's all the info I have.

He wouldn't need a plenum or VIS as these were all fairly recent ish and working A ok.

Any help or advice I can pass on would be fine, have told him to add timing belt etc before installing new engine (assuming he definitely goes this route).

He is also based in Inverness.

What would need changed on this ane for going in a ZS?

Tis a pity but also well done, that's one well travelled engine :)

andys1981 17-09-13 10:08 PM

the one in my blue zs went to austrailia, hope shes still working lol, thats bad news though has he burst the sump?

Maxfly 18-09-13 05:27 AM

Sounds like he is describing the sump, have asked him to send me a pic of the damage when he can.

ZRed 18-09-13 07:52 AM

Cheers bud, I will do. Thanks :)

Maxfly 25-09-13 09:26 AM

Thanks for all the offers of help, have just had him call me to say he is back on the road. Apparently still has original engine which has an extra bolt and a new sump?!? Also has a sump guard, says he will send me some pics later. Am intrigued with this so looking forward to what I get to see. Thanks all again!!

peterzs 25-09-13 09:49 AM

Least you tried to help, Maxfly, hear of so many stories where the buyer has probs and the seller says "go away", or words to that effect!!!

Plus this was just an accident, so no blame on you.

:bow::bow: :hooray::hooray:

Maxfly 25-09-13 04:11 PM

Cheers Peter, aye will help him when I can and good to see plenty offers of help here. Relayed what was happening in this thread so now he won't mind if the engine does to pop as will get a fresh lump an pop it in as doesn't seem to bad to get a hold of now;)

peterzs 25-09-13 05:08 PM

Typical, couple of decent sounding engines that you wouldnt have minded recommending, all being sold round this time.

Lets hope his engine holds together.

:):):)

Maxfly 25-09-13 07:50 PM

Aye fingers crossed, real curious about this fix the guy done for him. Shall hopefully see it in the flesh some point soon! :)

petet16 25-09-13 08:08 PM

The extra bolt bit confuses me, what does it do, where is it fitted, questions, questions, questions,

Your telling me! The way he badly describes it to me has me thinking there was a small hole that's been drilled out an tapped for a Bolt to go in.......I may be thinking too simplistically here though!?!?

peterzs 26-09-13 09:16 AM

Sounds like a helicoil insert, into alloy wouldnt be a problem, but, I'd be worried about the alloy cracking where it was hit.

petet16 26-09-13 11:45 AM

It's all a bit of a mystery :hmmm:

Maxfly 01-11-13 09:03 AM

Well it wasn't good enough in the end, definately looking at engine change now. He has contacted Goldie for the work and the car is off the road till it goes till Falkirk for surgery haha. Seen him last night and he let me have a listen to it, oocha not good. Loud tapping/knocking noise. So if anyone here knows of a good KV6 drop a note please:)

andys1981 01-11-13 10:30 AM

at least if it goes to goldie, you know the job will be done properly, and the zed will be healthy again gaz

ZRed 07-11-13 08:33 PM

He failed spectacularly. Rolled in on breakdown truck at 11 last night.

Haha, just been getting messages from him. Pitlochry, well could have been worse he might have got stuck at drumochter. Apparently his brother wasn't best please with bits of KV6 rattling off his windscreen at 50mph. Seems pretty impressed with you and what you have in your workshop anyway.
Was good of you to go and meet him at that time of night too, don't know what time he left here but I dropped him to tow ropes before 1700.

ZRed 09-11-13 07:44 AM

Yeah I hung around til he arrived. Always something to do in here.

petet16 25-11-13 05:40 PM

Jeez, that's a bit of a show stopper, has it thrown a rod?.

Maxfly 25-11-13 05:50 PM

I don't actually know what went in the end, Goldie be the one who would know. No point asking Bruce as unless he has been told all he knows is that there was a bang and rattling as bits of engine ricocheted off the car and a cloud of smoke lol.
Looks good though and looks like the remains of a rod at edge of hole doesn't it?

Smokey 25-11-13 05:50 PM

Polyfiller will fill that nicely :P

KevG 27-11-13 07:03 PM

petet16 28-11-13 11:05 AM

Was this the same engine that had an extra bolt or something as an attempted repair.

ZRed 28-11-13 11:09 AM

I found some engine in the inlet manifold.....
