Tinkering at the weekend, some rubber in the splitter to give it a bit more protection and chopped the innards out of the bonnet...

Nope and nope. Not floppy all, it's a formed piece of metal that's rigid around the edges so will retain its shape nicely.

its hard work gutting a steel bonnet, when gutting one of mine, my only regret was not doing a composite one as it would have been quicker and easier than gutting a steel one!

This is true! It's the cheap alternative to a lightweight bonnet though.
