Old photos

I was looking through my photo archive last night and was surprised at the changes over the last 17 years of ZS ownership. The changes to my ZS, the meets we had, the cars we don’t see, the people we don’t see. The meets were well attended, the days before Facebook killed off the community spirit. The only meet we have now is PoL, can’t wait to get mine to that again. Also gave myself a kick for realising my zed hasn’t turned a wheel for 6 years! Just shows life gets in the way, just as well as it’s not going anywhere either! Spent too much on it over the years.

I think that the meets are still happening - but people tend to arrange to go with a few friends and meet there rather than plan the big groups - like we saw on the forums of old.

I also think there are a lot more non-marque specific car based meets that are around via FB - so people go to those as well.

We lost a couple of years recently - but it is very easy for other things to take priority for sure and time seems to vanish!

I had a canvas done from photos of two of my favourite cars recently. Top half is my Mk1 black saloon from a Brand's taster over the bittersweet ZT-T also taken at Brands. It'll go up in the garage at my new place in a few weeks...

Good idea Dan. How’s it going up on the borders?

Getting there mate. A week or so from moving in. Been a hard, stressful time.

Not helped by our dog Jess leaving us for a better place and I'm just a bit lost right now. Good to have the house to focus on.

So sad Dan, heartbreaking.

Glad the house is getting there.

You just do not see the ZS's around anymore, even the ZR's have disappeared. I do see more ZT's and 75's around down here.

I am sure the recent squeeze of gas, electricity, and fuel, would have stopped a lot of meets if they were still going on.

Shame, but we all move on I suppose.

Amazed at the number of teslas I see near us, so ugly and not cheap.

Sorry to hear about Jess. It is hard losing a dog, lost my best friend Oreo in February, still miss him. Still have the other two but Daisy is getting on. I bet it has been a stressful time, moving house is bad enough but waiting for your dream home to be built is on another level. Look forward to seeing the finished results.

Thanks fellas.... It's the little things. It's coming in and them not there to greet you. No bed where she used to lay. Even, no dog hair in the hoover. And with the Mrs and boys out, we used to be together all day so miss the company so very much...

Miss the good old days tbh...

Cars have changed so much some for good and some for bad

Don't know if it is because we are all getting older, but the fun seems to have gone out of driving.

Less it is the cost of everything.

The new cars seem soulless, less it is the mega buck ones!

There was a time when running costs didn’t stop us doing things, these days you have to think twice and ask yourself do I need to make that trip? I miss racing, took time out and never went back. Couldn’t afford it now. My ZS will be with me into retirement, have plans to go hill climbing and carry on with track days. 7 years left on my mortgage and then the fun begins :shifty:

One of the down sides of refinement is a detachment from the experience imo.

modern cars are a lot better in that area even the tiny little things - with the forced moved to electric car companies just aren't spending the money on the outliers any more.
There are some exceptions like the gazoo racing yaris, but they are a dying breed.

I'm trying to get the zs back on the road, as while the fuel price is the same as the mustang it goes twice as far per L... my fear is with it being sat for so long (it moves but very short distances currently) that the MOT is going to be un-economical to sort. As sadly just occurred to my mum's MK1 TT that went to the scrapheap in the sky.

The costs of getting about puts a major dent on my movement - it costs me nearly £8 to to go do my weekly shopping & that's only 22 mile round trip (that's the nearest "big" supermarket to me).

But even with the costs for cars atm - trains are even worse unless you book a specific seat waaaaay in advance, and not every-one can be that inflexible :(
