Paypal

Right, discussion please gents. I have used Paypal for probably 10 years. I have an all singing all dancing account, yet these buggers still rip me left right and centre for fees, and I seem to have to jump through different hoops every time I want to take MY money out. To avoid the aggro and stress, I took out a contract on a credit card machine offering the same service as Paypal really, but with better flat rate fees to me. Since I got that back in February, I have used it over the forums a grand total of 4 times. I have had interest in Decats several times and as soon as I offer the credit/debit card service instead of paypal, they do a runner! I realise Paypal offer buyer protection, but the seller protection is gash in all honesty. Not the first time i`ve sent something and the plum at the other end has pics of it fitted on a forum and opened a dispute with Paypal saying he didn`t receive it! I then provide all tracking info and 3 months later I get whatever Paypal have managed to recover from their empty account! My margins are so small to pass as much help on to you guys as possible and that means Paypal fees are simply not a viable way for me to do business anymore. I have handed in my notice and will be operating full time for myself come next month.

My question to you is simple, would you be happy to call and pay over the phone like any other company, or pay a higher price for the priveledge of paying with Paypal? As that`s the way it`s going.

If I was buying something off you, wouldnt worry me giving you my card details over the phone.

All the best when you go full time.

Thanks Peter.

The security measures to own a credit card machine mean you can`t keep anyones details. So I literally type it in as you talk and I have no record of the details.

Thing with PayPal you pay for the convenience of an instant payment. Bank transfers are free but can take up to 3 days. It's like your local shop or the supermarket. Sure the local shops closer, I wouldn't have to jump in the car and worry about car park dinks but then the supermarkets cheaper. They offer a service but you gotta pay "for the convenience factor"

Nope, BACS transfers are now instant.

I'm still waiting for a payment from a forum member sent Thursday that was from his account to mine and we're with the same bank. Bank told me it could take upto 3 days.

I have no problem with over the phone payments, always done it, Rimmers and Landy suppliers etc. Paypal is convenient but a pain with fees and pretty sure it is getting worse.

Am I right in saying that if you use a cc over the phone it provides at least as much buyer protection as PP.
