My zs 160 vvc
finally it’s time for me to reveal what engine conversion I went with
Firstly well done to those who guessed correctly- 1st place is Dan, well done mate Also Walker,Lawrence & Fred who all suggested the 160VVC. My car is now running a 160 VVC & the conversion is a nice tidy job. Massive :thankyou: to Goldie who had this job to do during moving to new unit and had a busted back, appreciate all the updates and teaching me about what’s required with the conversion. Car runs really well & reckon I will be running it for a good while now as I was starting to lose interest in it and very nearly trading it in & leaving the scene, so a few goodies have been ordered and a little tlc will be given to it, couple of silly little Gremlins to iron out, MOT was passed today with no problems, car pulls really well & rip from exhaust when putting the foot down is very addictive Anyone looking to do a conversion then I fully recommend to contact Goldie. |
Excellent sturff Marcus, was actually hunting for this thread a few days ago when your old engine went up for sale haha. Bet yer like a kid in a sweetie shop the noo wi it haha:D
|
Nice one, I am tempted by something similar!
How does it compare to the 110? |
No so much a sweetie shop Gary, seen lot's of Esso shops lately.
Fed up of rainy nights as want to get out & enjoy a drive, |

And it just pulls so much more torque than my 110 modded engine, Really feels like a different car now. |
Be interesting to have some sort of back to back with one of the 180's down there, see what folk felt, as lighter engine should mean it handles with the same sharpness as when it was a 110 compared to the heavier kv6 but with closer matched power output could make it very interesting:D
|
I will be doing at least 1 Knockhill night with it Gary but prob not till Next yrar.when Smokey has the track car running also, Hopefully have a few other engine mods on it by then also.
Reckon with twists on Knockhill it could be very close with a 180, not so sure about the long straight though.. My Xpower spring & 180 brake setup compliment the 160 engine, loads of fun at roundabouts, just darts in & fires out ( bit like me with my Mrs) |
Ah, now i see...I thought it was that your favourite film was gone in 60 seconds but understand properly now ;) :D
|
I can confirm this is a worthy conversion it pulls like a bloody train nice one on the mot mate and well done Goldie, the vvc is a n excellent conversion and having seen it done I would consider a downgrade if the kv6 gave up on me.
|
Sounds like a good job, keep us updated on how you got on with it as this could be a good benchmark. If it is not a problem from Goldie it would be good to have a write up on what was done so others can assess whether to do the same.
|
Great, as for reliabilty ect the 160s are run reliable so sounds good to me:)

rocker cover & VVC manifold- Sorry- Will look to some future upgrades with Cams etc & will take some guidance from Goldie on how to progress the car but within safe limits. At some point I will get it on the R/R to find out what it is at now and use that as a starting point. Little things that are on to do list is find MK2 160 ECU/BCU as at the moment I have no boot release from the Keyfob or front fogs without adapting switches to latch switches, had to do this for Hazard switch for MOT and surprised myself by bodging something simple up for £1.80 from Maplin. Other thing is the VVC mechs rattle like an old diesel tractor when car is stationary, cant hear anything but exhuast rip when moving, but it is noticable and I guess I may just get used to it over time as it seems a rather common thing with the VVC. Dont have plans to put "VVC inside" stickers on it or 160 badges as I would prefer just to surprise anyone that wants to go against a ZS 1.6. |

Looking great Marcus, liking the red detailing and tidy inlet too. How's it all going, any teething issues. Bet the extra oomph still plants a smile on yer face:)

we ended up with 2 at our dealership, put it down to mg using chasis and engines up |
Thanks for positive comments guys, Thankfully Ive no real problematic teething problems
Car handles really well & Ive kinda stopped/slowed down with the quick cornering & overtaking, Massive fun at first but I was being a bit of a Bellend revving it out the street Hope to keep it running well and now Ive got my trackday tyres(Thanks Ritchy) fitted to old wheels then I can try it out on Knockhill rather than public road. |
This sounds very interesting... sorry if I've missed something previously but have a couple of questions.
Is this a total engine and box change or is there some way of converting to a vvc head and vvc assembly? I was told that a 160 head could be fitted to my 120 minus the vvc gear, fit some different cams throttle body and remap giving somewhere close to a 160. True or bullpoo? Now the rude question...what sort of damage was done to your bank account? |

I have a backup PG1 should the current one go Bang.. The VVC head can & has been fitted to other bottom ends but why do half a job ?? The question of what it cost - Well, if I never told the Mrs then I wont be telling you lot..:) Wasnt as much as you would think & much cheaper than the last guy offering the 160VVC conversion wanted to charge, and a deal was done for my old engine with some goodies on it.. Send an enquiry to Goldie if your interested.. |
ib5 is a good box marcus, my dad doesnt rate the pg1 that much tbh,
