180 track car project

After owning 2 Zs's, 2 ZR's a TF and an F, I have finally managed to get a 180 ZS. We already have a Pumesta track car from which we have learned a lot about preparation and requirements so have decided to go bigger and better with the 180.

It's an 03 plate Mk1 in Silver with 62k on the clock. It's taxed and tested until February. Only things wrong with it are it has had a very small bump on the rear that has been repaired and repainted, although not to the highest standard. A small crack on the front splitter and a small crack in the rear bumper. Also the front O/S CV joint is knackered and clicks like a typewriter.

Engine is very smooth and powerful and other than the clicky drive shaft it drives perfect. Drove it back 60 miles without a problem.

Someone has fitted 40 profile tyres on 3 wheels and left a 45 profile on one, it has a ZR stainless big bore back box and an open K & N in the engine bay....bless em they tried.

It has a rather nice JVC stereo and the interior isnt bad at all, the drivers seat bolster is still in one piece although there is a small cig burn in the seat bottom.

All this for the princely sum of £400.

Starting tomorrow, I will be stripping everything out to take it back to a bare shell and measuring up for the roll cage.

Will start posting pictures from tomorrow.

My god, you can pick up a 180 for as little as this
Quite looking forward to seeing how you go about this, will stay tuned

Will this be a bought or made cage? I made enquiries but found it very expensive. If I was going to seriously go back to tracking it I was going to make my own which I have done before when I raced on the ovals.

Good buy that.

we will make our own cage....buying them is prohibitively expensive £800 plus. We can make one for around £150.

To be honest we are on a bit of a budget as we are only a small garage and we currently run one track car - the Pumesta. Running a 2nd one will mean doing it gradually and as cheaply as possible.

Pumesta stats -
Ford Fiesta Setec S.
Engine - 1.7 Puma analogue, Pipercross cold air induction kit, silicone hoses throughout, silicone plug leads - Straight through handmade exhaust system with 4 into 1 manifold decatted - Magnaflow back box to keep within noise limits for track.
Electrics - all Puma transferred into Fiesta right up to the lights and cable driven speedo transplanted
Body - completely stripped out with much of the none stress point steel cut out. All sound deadening removed, Rear shock mounts braced with welded heavy gauge tubing, lower and upper OMP strut braces on front fitted. Carbon bonnet.
Suspension - standard Zetec S shocks with Eibach 45mm lowered and stiffened springs. All bushes polybushed with powerflex bushes. Puma racing rear axle 1" spacers with 2 degrees camber.
Wheels - Team Dynamics proline withe Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres.
OMP steering wheel - 4 point harnesses - lightweight fibreglass racing seats

Rolling road tested 127BHP top speed 138 Mph weight 735Kg - We are currently making a cage for this so will be good practise for the ZS. All of what we have done here will be carried over int the ZS with a few more mods and updates and each car will teach us more about building performance cars.

The last track this was driven on was the full Silverstone GP circuit, unfortunately we were outclassed by a lot of much more powerful cars, Evo's etc as this is a speed track and not one that totally benefits the superb handling of the Pumesta. That is where the ZS will come in.

PeterZS - Our nearest track is Blyton Park, but Cadwell, Oulton and Croft are all about the same distance away. Don't like Elvington, its seems a waste of money. Donnington isn't too far away either.

Was going out at Trax, got to 9 miles of Silverstone and popped a turbo pipe of the ZS Derv. Spent the day getting a new jubilee clip and fitting it. Missed the talk, so didnt go out 14.20 should have been on track, it started raining just about then, so wasnt too bothered.

Like your vid, as someone said, at least two should have been black flagged for overtaking on the right, plus another one in the bend area.

:clap::clap::clap:

That fezzy looks like loads of fun could do with some uprated cams though get close to 150bhp then although buying the ZS was probably cheaper lol with all these track cars Im tempted to strip mine out :)
