Pre-Cat 1.8

well just wandering if any one has removed the pre cat of the manifold and if it made any diffrence to the perfomance at all as i seem to get mine to glow if i boot it hard and will i need a new manifold

Id be interested to know about this aswell.
Im sure you can remove one of the cats and it will still pass the MOT.

Fudgepacker 17-02-09 07:39 PM

that was somthing else i wanted to know will it still pass the mot

XPCobra 17-02-09 08:30 PM

buy a janspeed manifold, have removed the pre cat before and didnt notice a difference ( on a 1.4)

Fudgepacker 17-02-09 09:50 PM

i never had one on my 1.4 rover but im wandering if this pre- cat will restrict the 1.8 by much

XPCobra 17-02-09 09:52 PM

doubt it, the pipe bends are crap on the standard manifold anyway

Fudgepacker 17-02-09 09:54 PM

so if i upgrade my manifold and remove the pre-cat will i gain any thing

mattie007 18-02-09 11:08 AM

You will get gains then, but Janspeed manifolds are quite expensive.

just been told today that the 120 has high emisions and if you remove the pre-cat you can fail your mot

XPCobra 19-02-09 02:54 AM

the pre-cat is inside your manifold, so if you replace your manifold with a janspeed item it won't have one ( however you will need a janspeed sports cat or decat pipe or your cat custom made to fit )

doubt the 120 wuld fail without a pre-cat, however have known them to fail without the proper cat
