I went to Brands Hatch a few months back to go for a ride in a MG ZR rallycar.........that was a 1.4 and producing over 170bhp...... 0 -60 was ridiculous and we was passing most things on track from a old BMW touring car (1990/1991 M3), Caterhams, Elises plus many other cars that you would not even contemplate toying with. What does it take and cost to get a 120 to that kind of performance?

ITG Induction set up, full exhaust sytem and manifolds, VVC head with VVC mechanism removed is what a lot seem to do (not sure of the eaxct spec of that I should imagine it is quite involved), bigger cams, stand alone ECU, uprated clutch and god know what else........ I do believe the ZR I was in had throttle bodies......and that's expensive too. Jim |
man thats quick. whats the most a 180 can push out do you wreckon?

Thing is........there is never a definitive answer........how deep are your pockets and how extreme do you want to go? Again........if you wanted to tune the KV6 really hard you would rebuild the engine with modded internals......lighten them, balance them......you'd replace pistons and conrods as well I would imagine all with strengthened parts.....you may even overbore the engine a little I guess. Cylinder heads you may port and polish, gasflow them, fit bigger valves, fit bigger camshafts which may make the idle lumpy but give bigger gains when above a certain rev range..... all that combined with some of the off the shelf products or even throttle bodies and the socks over the trumpets. The world is your oyster really. Jim |
ive had mine timed at 5.9sec

Tell you what folks........I have heard of a stealth mod. But don't go shouting it out everywhere okay...... What you need to do........is buy a couple of site stickers ;) Be warned though.........I know the small ones are worth about a tenth of a second but the bigger ones give the best gains of around a half a second from 0 - 60. And don't stick them anywhere because you will upset the balance of the car and end up in someones hedge ;) Jim |

so thats why my focus was so quick................. he he i got the big ones.... |

Other good point is you will be helping the site too, by buying some which we all appreciate! Jim |
I would love to have mine timed, feels quicker than 7.3 secs to 60
|

videos rigged imo ,first one shows it setting off at just before 4 seconds and it hits 60 at 11 seconds dead ,so its just over 7 seconds to 60.
But look how it pulls round to a ton by 21 seconds ,so thats 0-100 mph in 17 seconds ,thats comfortably faster than a zs 180 and he only has induction and exhaust so is making 125 bhp if hes lucky. The video is made going down hill ,its the only explanation. Dave |

nah its rubbish ,stripping wouldnt make that much difference .
Standard zs 120 is about 30 seconds to 100 mph ,so hes knocked off 13 seconds:sneaky: Dave |
hes done something. theres vids from different people showing the 120 hitting 60 in that time. possible turbo conversion that there not telling about?
|
wasnt there a 120 with a turbo???
|
Is there any possability that these may not even be done on the road? Like maybe on a RR where the car doesn't have to actually move it's whole weight... just the rollers? That could possibly mean less friction as well and reducing the 0-60 time.
Just 'throwing an option out there'... ;) |
Well its possible he could have the engine in i posted about above.
|
I don't think it is done on a rolling road as the camera appears so move back as he accelerates then forwards as he changes gear which makes me think it is moving.
|
acceleration of a 180 fuel economy of a 120. nice
