Is this a fair price ?

I've had the Scooby a year and I really have loved it but in a quest to own all the cars I've ever wanted she has to go.

Whilst I save up the next car I REALLY want ive found an interim car that ive always wanted.

A little Mgtf. I always found them much prettier than an mx5.
Its a 2002 Its done 47k from new but it hasn't done a great deal in the last couple of years. I don't think its done 50 miles since the last mot. One middle aged owner but the son had the use (abuse) of it for the last three years.

It has a few spots of rust and is generally unloved. It had the belts and Hg done two years ago by an ex Mgr main dealer.

The soft top rear window has a tear but the roof is good and has nearly always been used with the hard top.

It will need tyres.

Today I blew the tyres up and jumped the flat battery, checked all the fluids and took the top of and had a spin. I had it running for around an hour with no problems.

Ive agreed a price of £600 what do you think cheap, fair, Money Pit :chair:

Soon to be back in an mg :mbounce:

£600 seems a fair price.

Similar age, much higher mileage.

Hmm I like the idea of loosing the roof and making the car even cheaper.

peterzs 24-09-13 10:10 AM

My 03 TF 160 was a lot more than that, so I'd say a bargain.

Hardtop and wheels will give you the buying price back!!!

Can get new plastic windows that you can put in the hood, or up grade to a glass rear window.

Fun little cars.

Stick some tf 11 spoke 16s on there and an Alcantara interior and it
s worth 12-1300

Model type or edition plays a big part in prices, our MGF Wedgewood SE sees prices around the £2k mark still. Can't see why but that is what is seen on ebay recently, being a 500 off run helps as not many around I guess. If a run of the mill TF then prices do fall as they are all getting on now. Still, at £600 it looked a bargin for a TF and can easily be modified inside and out to make it worth a lot more for little outlay.

Well ive got it home

Cant wait until Saturday so I can give it a clean and get a list of work needed for an mot.

And the Scooby is through the mot as well.

Dan1971 26-09-13 07:23 PM

Nice one - congratulations on your new arrival.

petet16 26-09-13 07:32 PM

Get it for £600 ?.

big_wasa 26-09-13 08:22 PM

yep, with the roof.

Drives fine but the tyres are sh##ed

peterzs 26-09-13 08:42 PM

front and rears are a different size.

check the brake lines for rust, the metal ferrules on my front rubber hoses had rusted, put s/s ones on.

Had the belts, tensioners etc done and a full service done by MG Rover soloutions. He travels from Brands Hatch area.

Have fun. Cheap buy.

petet16 26-09-13 08:46 PM

That's good, bring it up to scratch over the winter then sell for a tidy profit in the spring.

yeh that's one thought. ive also got mad ideas of a 200bhp engine swap. Its just one of them cars that's on the bucket list and it just came up cheap.

How much of a pig are they to get at for the belts ? the K16 belts in a zs are a very easy.

big_wasa 12-10-13 11:37 AM

Well that's the roof sold making it a £400 Tf with out Hgf :smart:

Downside is I can already add £120 for four good tyres on used rims :judge:

And it needs a full new exhaust and the rear window fixing now ive sold the hard top.

My aim is to have it Mot'd and able to do a day at Cadwell next spring and keep the cost under what I can sell it for.

peterzs 12-10-13 12:21 PM

When the engine covers off, you get goodish access to the engine.

Think Russell did my belts and a Full service in 3/3 1/2 hours or so.

Different alternator belt if you have a/c.

There is a company thats put a KV6 into their TF. so is doable. MG Lifestyle.

big_wasa 12-10-13 01:31 PM

Any info on the firm that do the kv6 conversion Pete ? Ive seen a few threads on a diy conversion in an mgf but never seen a Tf done.

Ive already removed the access panel for the service. I do my own work when I can.

peterzs 12-10-13 01:59 PM

Hope this works.

Not a lot of difference between the F and TF in that area apart from the hydrogas spheres in the subframe - eitherway you need to mod the subframe to get the exhaust fit.
