My ones off ebay ?50 + ?6 p&p

As you say dont know how good they are until you bung them in, also need copper washers to sit down on, but only pennies.

I threw a wobbly when I got mine as I thought the threads were bu**ered.

But I filed them up and went to a friendly garage and paid a couple of quid to a mechanic for a nut to run up and down the thread, so all look OK.

Just got to pluck up courage to bung them in, worries me a bit when the word is that you can do the pump in, if you run them tuned up too much.

My ones 134 bhp and goes fast enough to get me into trouble!!!!!

Cheers Pete. Been keeping an eye on ebay but i dont fancy a set thats done 150k. So something a bit lower would be ideal :)

I know you can get them refurbed, but think its quite pricey, thought I'd stick them in and see what happens.

I'm not too far from Yeovil and Reidy Remaps, saw he was doing remapping for derv at Oxford today about ?100 cheaper, but it was too short notice, plus havnt got the SDi's in.

Thought I might ask if he is doing a similar thing bit later, think he usually charges ?250 - ?220. Have heard that you get a lot of black smoke if you bung them in and dont get a tweak of the ECU.

Smoke is an issue ..... but so what ..... Mine cost ?40. 26bhp. No brainer.

SDIs all the way, massive improvement for the price

Smoke is just unburnt fuel, which only happens when the burning fuel runs out of air during the cycle. So if you get enough air in, then you get minimal smoke.
In other words, if you get smoke, you just need to work on getting more air through the system. Not just in, but out too.
To get the best out of SDi's you need at least a K&N panel filter, empty catalytic converter and a free-flowing back-box, as well as the boost adjusted to 19psi.
You can go for a remap to reduce the smoke, but you're better off sticking the above bits on first and then taking it for a remap to get the best out of the entire setup.

Think I will be OK then, BMC panel filter, no cat, Powerflow exhaust.

Just need the guts to fit them!!!!

Dan1971 11-09-11 08:19 PM

Only thing missing there for me is a free flowing back box.

Personally - having fitted my mods one at a time and then run the car on a dyno - the smoke got worse as progressively through from the decat to be honest.

What the hell - only smoke. Might look at a remap at some point - but for now - all good.

It's no more difficult to do than, say, changing spark plugs. But these will give you about 40bhp more! Go for it, you won't regret it (I certainly didn't, and it's the first mod I'd always do now). :D
