Vader is gone, roll on "Lara"

Well after a short ownership Vader the Defender is moving onto a new home. It wasn't for sale a week and a mate's brother in law put a deposit on it last night :wavecry:

but onwards and upwards. It was sold to fund this monster... meet "Lara" the 2001 Tomb Raider Edition. One of only 400 made world-wide (only 100 made as a double cab) I'll get better pictures when I pick it up on Thursday :snap:

Nice one, any plans for it?

Maxxed_Ross 15-11-11 04:49 AM

thanks lads

might change the front bumper as I'm not too keen on it... but apart from small stuff that's it. These are worth alot more standard

That I likey! :D Best one as well imo. Prices are a bit strange on these, some high some seem a bit cheap and not to everyones taste. Funny as I was watching Tomb Raider last night! V8?

Vader is gone, roll on "Lara"

They are vasty different. The 90 versions (300 made) seem to go between £8k and £14k for a mint one... these 110 versions (only 100 made) start at around £14k and can go as high as £20k. The only other 110 for sale just now (in Glasgow strangely enough and not as nice as this one!) is up for £17k :w00t:

I suppose that's a realistic sort of price considering they were over £30k new back in 2001... an insane amount of money for a Defender back then. I was speaking to my mate that works for Landrover about it the other night and he was saying even the basic Tomb Raider had over £7k worth of extras on it from the factory - and with this one having the "Extreme Pack" that was another £4k

It all adds up! :nugget:

As for the engine, it's a sensible TD5 I'm afraid. The movie version was a 4.2 V8 from a Discovery and mounted into a Defender 130 Hi-Cap (they never came as either a soft top or a V8!)

Landrover Special Vehicles built two of them, and as for as I know both are now in motor heritage centres

You can't go wrong with the TD5, cheaper to run than the V8! My Disco has the TD5 and returns reasonable MPG for its weight and tows extremely well. I was toying with idea of a Tomb Raider later on but the lack of dog carrying capacity is putting me off. I may well go for a Disco 3 but the build problems are putting me off.

you can put a hard top on the back you know

stamford 16-11-11 06:34 AM

Yea I know but they'd be separated from the car with the cab, don't think they would like that! Besides it'll change the looks too much!
