ZT, should I walk away?

Saw a Black 2004 MG ZT 1.8 turbo for sale yesterday.

67k miles, but has had a new engine. Engine had done 50k when fitted and the current owner has done 6-7k mile since. Turbo has also been replaced too. There are receipts for both the turbo and engine installation.

Good points.
Facelift model, which I think I prefer.
Black, my favourite colour
1.8t engine, easy maintenance and can be remapped if I need more power
fairly low mileage at 67k
Engine is low mileage
Turbo has been replaced so should be good for a while yet.

Bad points.
It's on its 6th owner in 8-9 year
Engine has been changed (is this really a bad thing?)
Small scratch on the rear bumper
Slight tear in drivers seat
It's in birmingham.

Should the engine being replaced and number of owners put me off?

The seller says that he's using the car on a daily basis and regularly travels to newcastle and leeds. Says the car was a bit of a shed when he bought it, but he's had loads done to it to get it all tip top.

The replacement engine wouldn't put me off, the chances are it was better built than the original one:laugh:

That's what I'm thinking.

I'm trying to find someone from the ZT forum that's local that'll go have a look at the car for me.

You could try Terry at TS Autos, He would want paying to inspect for you, i imagine, but last time I asked he wasn't very pricey. has a website with a bit of info on it. http://www.tsautos.com/contact.html

He gets good rep from the 75/Zt forumeers. He is the West Midlands.

It is right on Terrys doorstep, so I'm sure for a small fee he'd take a look, he may even know the car.

The owners issue would be a concern if you did not plan on keeping the car and later tried to sell it. I have bought from TS Autos and spoke to him on the phone before, he knows his stuff.
