Need advice following my girlfriends crash.

So my girlfriend span and totalled her car on the M23 northbound on Sunday night.

She was in the left lane when somebody tried to pull into where she was. She gave a flash warning and a blast of the horn but he carried on and she was forced to head onto the hard shoulder at about 60-70mph.

She then lost control of her car which then span (she thinks it may have been ice there as it was pretty cold sunday) she hit the Armco on the hard shoulder and then span for a long time back into the middle lane. (Someway, somehow, she wasn't hit by anything else as it was about 5:30 in the evening so not a quiet time.)

This is the little fiesta that did well not to break anymore and avoid all traffic as it span.

She waited about thirty minutes for the highway officers to arrive. They sorted out getting her and the car recovered and hopefully on her way back to Norwich.
After calling the recovery place they then left her on the side of the motorway in the freezing weather in the dark with a car that's hazards weren't working with nothing more than a coat following an accident that had the potential for far worse injury. (Thankfully just stiff all over and a bump to the face(lips and eye area) bruising where the seatbelt was and bruising to arms).
So she waited for an hour and a half in the cold and dark on a motorway and I was well pissed.
Are you guys of the opinion that the highways guys should have waited with a vulnerable young lass who's standing there in shock after a crash, rather than leaving her waiting with no support around?
I'm unsure as to if I can complain about their conduct and I'm not looking to gain anything other than it not happening to someone else's loved ones 150 miles from home with no shelter.
I may be over-reacting but it seems pretty shitty to me.

(Also, funnily, insurance said it may be repairable. :hmmm: )

Not 100% sure how it works with the HA but the police won't as they're not insured to carry passengers unless under arrest.

What she should have done is called for an ambulance to take her to the hospital so at the very least would be somewhere safe and warm and as a precautionary measure get checked over for any injuries.

Hope she is ok mate, had a nasty one on the m1 back in march so know what its like :)

That's not a great looking one either mate! Ambulance didn't get called. I guess as she was walking around and talking. I asked her a bunch of stuff too as we're both healthcare professionals so tried to do it over the phone. Lol.

Maybe they're not allowed either. Would have been nice to though.

I'm not sure how the HA normally handle such cases, is your gf a member of the AA or RAC or similar.

Sorry to hear this, hope she is on the mend.

Just pretty shook up really. Keeps having flashbacks. Couldnt sleep last night and today. Not sure wether I'd rather have physical or mental scars really. :/

Says she felt like she was just waiting to die. Waiting for the bash of another car as well. Luckily both never happened.

Not sure Pete. I didn't ask tbh. I expect so as she got to Norwich (albeit at 3:30am)

They potentially had more incidents to go to yeah, I'll do a bit of reading around I think.

Car looks well wrecked. On the up side you got out with minimal injury.
Prob has out her off driving now.

wow thats quite a bad one going by the look of the car,you would have thought they would have stayed with your girlfriend,or sorted something out at least, its over now,and at least she is ok,you must have been worried bud.

If that we me I would be spitting bullets over that! I would most definitely follow this up with a complaint as she should never have been left in that condition. Disgusting attitude and service.

Good job she is okay as could easily have gotten worse with shock etc.

Repairable? I doubt it.

Skillen 20-01-15 07:31 AM

The most frustrating thing is being 300 miles away and not able to help out.
I can't find an address just yet but I'm trying to haha
If it was summer it's a different matter really as leaving someone on the side of the road is less dangerous as people can see the hazard and her etc.

The recover guys were gonna take her to hospital and were asking if she was sure she was alright.
