help, engine whine

i seem to have picked up an engine whine coming from the engine, seems to be on the left of the engine and gets worse when i turn the wheel. am i looking at a new power steering pump here or somthing worse ??
any help or info would be gratefully received.

Is there any power steering fluid in the reservoir? - if its too low or empty then this will cause a whine :)
