Hmmm good question.

I think technically you will be liable, but if you have evidence to prove that you sold the car on that date you may have a chance.

On a side note... it took 3 letters and quite a few months before DVLANI actually accepted that i still had my car. They kept sending letters saying "Thankyou for notifying us about the sale of your vehicle..."
