they dont usually go due to the cold, usually the bearing wear out, or they go stiff(usually heater resistor will go down first in that case), or the brushes, and not so much on the zs but lieks of the 3 series, one coil goes down internally in the motor so if the fan stops in a certain place it can't start, turn it a little and it'll go again
