Hey - Was just an idea - I was looking at a 1.6 as I fancy a cheap 2nd car which a 1.6 would be - but a turbo'd car wouldn't.

Yes you have to declare changes to the DVLA.
Yes you have to insure the correct engine size to insurers.

The tax band though - I'm sure - will not change as the emissions cannot be established and so remain as they were when the car was first registered.

I reckon - and it's a guess - the one you refer to changed because the date of registration is where the tax is calculated purely on engine size - not emissions - as it has been since 2001 ?
