The st170 is a reworked zetec but its a cracking engine and would be great in a drivers car like the zs

Great when it works..............From my experience, it is the most unreliable engine in the old Focus, because its a Federalised unit. Based on the USA version. The non standard bits are very very expensive.........

Well as a parts advisor for a Ford main dealer, we hate them at our garages.
Different plugs, they foul up, the throttle body very expensive, the catalyst hanger rusts through and you used to have to buy a whole new cat, until recently.
You must have had a good one................
Still prefer the ZS180..........

dont knock an st170, ok the engine needs revving a bit to get the performance but they handle very very well, through some nice corners it would come down to whos the best / bravest driver.
