raging with myself

So I am driving to work.this morning and stop to pick up a workmate,so while I am.waiting for him I decide to put water in my window washers.and in my bleary eyed tired state in the pitch black I took the lid off the power steering fluid and topped it up with the washer water.I managed a good half litre in there before I realised my IDIOTIC error.really pissed off with myself.so I ask you lot what is the best way to purge and clean the sysytem out before it fecks everything up.

hahaha, ive almost done very similar!

topping up coolant with washer fluid.... stopped before i did so though!

in my defence the coolant and washer fluid was the same colour

oops, you have a couple of options to drain it, probably the easiest is going to be disconnecting the feed pipe at the reservoir, and the pipes at the steering rack, and leave it to drain, then refill and bleed with fresh fluid.

The other method is to use a large syringe to draw it out of the reservoir, then refill, run the engine, then repeat with the syringe, it saves disconnecting anything but might need repeating a few times.

Is there any mileage in cranking the engine over (less fuel pump relay) and pumping the fluid out from a disconnected hose until empty? Then reconnect hose and refill reservoir and crank again until purged? Just a thought. Not had to drain and bleed a system before so unsure of the procedure.

I'd leave it overnight then undo the clips and drain it down.

Specially at the lowest point as the oil and water will separate.

Least you know you have got it all out, syphoning method could take longer and might still miss some of the water.

Take the cap off, turn the car upside down and give it a good shake. Sorted.

This would work fine as well, the smaller diameter pipe on the pas reservoir is the return.
