Wynns Hydraulic Valve Lifter Treatment

Anyone tried it? Following up from my previous thread about a rattling from cold that Im now pretty sure its a sticky tappet. Have just a few weeks ago given it an oil/filter change with Motul 300V 5w40 so dont really want to drain brand new oil out just yet.

Came across this which was recommended on a ford site thought it might be worth a go for a few hundred miles then carry out another oil change. Seems a few on .org have had good results with it on the kseries. Although does it just mask the problem? Would have thought a strip down and clean is the only way to solve truly the problem. Anyone on hear given it ago? Guess for under ?10 its worth a go.

on Rover V8s ( im going back 30 years or so) we used drain the oil and fill the sump with redex...... let the engine idle all day then drain off and refill with oil...... worked if it was just muck in the cam followers

Used to use it lots at our garage, the old CVH engines always got oily. Used to sound like trucks when they first started.

Shame we not got any left, could have let you had some at just cost of postage.

Dont use it now, Ford dont recomend any additives. We reckon its so they dont have to admit their engines are s**t!!

Well chucked some in this morning. On my way home the car was still a little rattly to begin with but seemed much better, maybe as it hadnt fully cooled down but had been left for a couple of hours. Not sure if its a placebo effect but seems to run smoother in general! Give it a few hundred miles and see then.

think he uses it exactly as you do - to see if the problem goes away; if not then a strip down a proper sorting is needed but can often be avoided etc....

think he bunged a load in mine, but turned out that the lifters had to be replaced as they were marked; as identified when he took the head off
