Maybe buying a new zs180 need some advice

Hi folks its been a while since ive last been on here,sold my last mk1 180 back in march,shouldnt of done it though.Well ive just been to look at another an mk1 03 plate full service history,one owner from new with 67k on the clocks,had some old receipts but not loads,had some for the gearbox re-built,and bearings done,also had one for the clutch replaced in march this year,But! ive just taken it for a test drive,and didnt get a quarter of a mile down the road to find the clutch would not come back up off the floor,is that a bad thing if these things have been replaced? the guy said he will sort the car but its not a very big garage,so im a bit scared of it maybe being botched,the car looks straight though,,hes looking ?1800 and i got him down to ?1550.Would you still go for it if hes promised to fix this or walk away?bit unsure what to do as this was the only prob with it,and he wasnt intrested in giving me a 3 month warranty either,plus it had no tax so il also be taxing it on collection,is it worth it folks or just go n find another one?any help info n advice would be great thanks.

Id be most interest to see proof that the belts had been done.

That being so, I wouldnt be overly concerned by the clutch, theyre a weak point and a lot of people have been replacing them with Sheddist kits. Id let him fix it and get in touch with Sheddist as soon as you get it and replace the whole system asap.

The other important point would be the plenum and whether it rattles or not.

Plenty of points to consider at any rate, so you can do some hard bargaining :-)

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Its a buyers market, you can find an absolute minter for ?1500 if you look about. A mk2 with belts done can be had for ?2000. No need to pay rip off garage prices, even if they do give a "warrenty" it wont be worth the paper its written on. Far better off finding an enthusiast owned one which has been loved rather than settling for a rattly, messed up clutch example. Just my opinion

That rattle was probably the purge valve. A broken plenum would sound like this;

do love that mk2,but sadly not got that much to spend,i had a clio 172,swapped it stupidly for a corrola t sport,got it half way home then the gearbox went,my clio was worth within 2500,and i ended up with 1400 cash for it,working for toyota i sold it to a motor trader whos going to fix it,how peed off i was is untrue,and my clio was straight,but ive had two mgs had a zr and a zs so i thought stuff getting another clio get a zs,i miss my old silver zs just bought is it like a dark black maybe graphite grey one,really clean all standard too,3 owners from new 1100,with 12 months mot 60k,not bad i suppose,pick it up on monday night,had to tax it first,
