Battery issues

So all the lights, radio, speedo failed yesterday. Stopped outside a friends house and then the car wouldn't start...

Result is a tempory earth cable attached from gearbox to batter as other one has completely removed itself from the gearbox! and a new battery.

Hellfrauds wanted ?120 for a new battery, so went round the corner and picked up the same battery from a motor factors for ?50.

Does anyone have a spare earth cable??

I bought my Landy battery on line saved me a few quid and got a 4 year warranty with it. Can't remember, is the gearbox earth a combined lead straight to the clamp?

Yes it is... Which is a pain

What I found odd is, the battery was very very low on power (old battery) with one of the earths off... so the car decided to spin up the front fans every 30 seconds for 15 seconds, then set the alarm off for the next 15 seconds, then repeat.... Wouldn't let me disarm the alarm either

I suppose its not bad though, the old battery was 7 years old

I only replaced mine last year and that was because the car was sitting unused for long periods and finally killed it off. So yours has done very well. Only way around your problem if you can't get a like for like replacement is to buy a lead from the local motor factors and a negative terminal and make a new assembly. I reworked all of mine when I re-sited the battery to inside the car. I used welding power cable.

My local factors "do not sell cables" and the hellfraud stuff is stupidly thin (or braided) would it be worth getting a grounding kit do you think??

I did notice that with this new earth lead and battery the car seems to have brighter lights and seems to be smoother running at idle (could be placebo effect though I guess!)

Can I ask, what did you do with the ECU? and doesn't the battery give off noxious gasses? thus dangerous inside the car? or is that not the case with Car batterys...

The ECU is bolted to the remains of the battery tray, not very nice to look at! The battery is housed inside a sealed battery box, so not real issues. That's how they have always done them within the SEGTO racing regs. Pro-Parts sell battery cable, just need to get a terminal and make your own cable kit. Never heard of killerglass?

The used one of the glass tubes to back a nail into some wood, and then drove a huge Truck over it to prove it was strong...
